Despite having many mutual friends, I met Natalie for the first time at our friends’ 4th of July party. She overheard me talking about whittling with my mother, Maryanne, and thought that that was very sweet. The thing that stands out most to me about that evening is Natalie running excitedly through the streets on her way to the bay, setting off myriad fireworks as she went along.

The first time we really got a chance to hang out was at the opening of other mutual friends’ female owned and run bike shop, Moon Cycles. They were (not so secretly) trying to set us up. Natalie played music and I awkwardly tried to make conversation. I went to the after-party dance where she and I spent the rest of the evening dancing with each other. It was lots of fun, but I managed to destroy my phone in the course of a dance-battle with some would-be interlopers (I won).

We wrote down each other’s information and went on a date to the Humboldt County Fair two days later! Fast forward to now where we share a home, 2 (mostly) wonderful dogs, and as much of our time as we can together. I’m very much looking forward to the many years we have ahead of us to spend together!
