Natalie & Kevin

There simply isn’t enough room on this page to fully develop the saga of Kevin and Natalie. Though to begin to unpack the story, the sayings “timing is everything”, “the best things in life are those that are most unexpected” and “everything meant to be, always works out in the end” are true hallmarks of Kevin and Natalie’s relationship.

Kevin and Natalie’s relationship dates back to March 31, 2013. 9:OO AM Mass. Easter Sunday. St. Mary of the Lakes Church in Medford, NJ. (The parish in which Kevin and Natalie grew up in together, and the church in which they are getting married in). Kevin was 19 years old, Natalie age 16. Kevin was seated in the side pew, visible to see Kevin’s father, one of the Deacons at the church who would be facilitating at the mass. Natalie and her family, were seated in their typical spot, front row, off to the right hand side.

Right before mass, Kevin approached Natalie and introduced himself. He had known Natalie’s older siblings from karate class though had never formally interacted with the “youngest Chiappetta”. Ten minutes prior to the mass, Kevin walks straight up to Natalie, gently extends his hand and says “Hi there, I’m Kevin, you must be the other Chiappetta”. Immediately, Natalie’s heart flutters. Little did he know that Natalie had been admiring him from afar years prior. Growing up and supporting her siblings at various karate belt test ceremonies, she would always watch Kevin from a distance. Who would have thought that on that Spring morning, a decade later, these two would be tying the knot!

Kevin and Natalie grew up one mile down the road from eachother. However, they “missed eachother” throughout high school as Kevin attended a private boys school, and Natalie the local public school. However, Natalie can recall several moments walking her dog and seeing Kevin running down their street, only communicating through a subtle smile and a wave. Kevin eventually picked up Natalie from her house one evening and drove her to the nearby Italian restaurant for a “first date”. From there on, they stayed in touch, and continued their friendship throughout college, as Kevin and Natalie attended the same University, The Catholic University of America in Washington DC (one year apart from eachother). Here is where they “missed each other” ….AGAIN, as they never dated, though stayed in a similar friend circle and were around eachother quite a bit. Kevin, being the perseverant man he is, pursued Natalie multiple times, coming to her recitals and giving her flowers, sending her a singing valentine that her a capella group sang to her, in addition to several walks around campus chatting, though they never formally dated.

After they had both graduated, Kevin moved to Charleston, South Carolina and began working in commerical HVAC sales, and Natalie moved to Chicago to attend graduate school at Northwestern and then moved to Louisville, Kentucky to complete her fellowship in Voice Rehabilitation. Kevin, always someone who had kept in touch with Natalie through birthdays, holidays and life events, reached out to Natalie to check in with her life and how Kentucky was treating her. Natalie had recently joined a women’s group at her church in KY. Coincidentally, the women were planning a trip to Charleston in a few months! Within that same time, Natalie had also accepted a job at the NYU Voice Center and would be moving to Manhattan in several weeks. However, Natalie and Kevin finally reunited in Charleston, where Kevin, after over 4 years of not seeing eachother, approached Natalie immediately and wholeheartedly expressed his feelings for her and his intentions in wanting to begin a relationship. And thus, the adventure began!! “Missing eachother” for all these years, finally led them to meet at the most beautiful and truly unexpected time.

Kevin soon after visited Kentucky, the week before Natalie moved out to Manhattan, and they went to the Derby together (as shown in the picture above). This is their true “official first date”, as this is where they started their budding relationship after all those years prior where the timing always missed them. THIS is where the “unexpected” moments became the most important.

Natalie and Kevin had a long-distance relationship for over a year, both frequently flying from Manhattan to Charleston and building memories together. Kevin moved up to NJ, about a half hour away from Natalie and they began to finally be in the same state! Several months after Keivn had moved to the same state, they got engaged on campus at Catholic University, sharing a moment together just them, and then surrounded by family and friends at an intimate after party.

After years of having the “timing not match up”, they finally had THEIR time. From teenagers, meeting at an Easter Mass, to then having years of pursuing and courting but never dating, to now preparing to join as one in holy matrimony, Kevin and Natalie’s relationship is a true testament that everything always happens for a reason, and that in life, the best things in life are the ones most unexpected.
