The first time Natalie met Corey, she was selling tickets to an event that was being hosted by La Unidad (the Latino club on campus). She was sitting with a friend at the front door with her cash box and tickets in hand, trying to keep the line moving as quickly as she could. When it was Corey's turn to purchase his ticket, he engaged her in your typical college small talk, asking her her name and giving his in return. Definitely not a shy guy. He propositioned her to a bet and told her that she would not remember his name the next day! Killer line. They went about their night, never really crossing paths again.
As luck would have it, they bumped into each other outside Shain Library the VERY next day! As she approached him, she remembered that bet she had playfully agreed to the night before and said "Hey! So, you're name is Corey, what's my name?" Corey stumbled on his words and tried to dig deep within his memory to come up with something that resembled a name. He could not. Smooth move!
Months passed before they actually saw each other again. This time, it was on the ice rink for a Habitat for Humanity fund raiser they both showed up to separately. Natalie had been coming from a relaxing wine night with her girlfriends and who knows where Corey was coming from! All she knew was that when she got on the ice (with her best friend since 6th grade), she was bombarded with Corey "playfully" tackling her. In typical Hitch fashion, he managed to bring both her AND Laura down! She was not pleased to say the least. As if once wasn't enough, he did it a second time and somehow thought this was cute! Somehow, somewhere in the back of her mind, she must've thought it was, because she agreed to hang out with him at a party in the student center, immediately following the skating. They ended up staying in the student center until 3am chatting with friends and getting to know each other better.
When he got up to leave, Corey said "we should hang out again some time," to which Natalie replied "you're going to need my number for that!" She'd like to think she got the ball rolling:)
After having a great night getting to know each other, Corey woke up the next morning and remembered that Natalie had explained the struggle of staying up late on a Thursday night and having to wake up the next day to be at her job at Unity House by 9. It was cold and snowing, so he thought it would be a fabulous idea to surprise her at work with hot chocolate and chips ahoy cookies. Interesting combo! He couldn't have checked his email, because if he had, he would have known that all college offices were closed due to a blizzard! What a wonderful surprise for Natalie!! So while Corey was making the trek across campus with hot chocolate and cookies in hand, Natalie was having breakfast in her pj's in the dining hall downstairs.
When he got to Unity House, he found the doors locked! Anyone else would have felt defeated! Corey, however, did not! He could have very well drank the hot chocolate and saved the cookies for some other time, but instead he chose to make the extra trip to Natalie's dorm. Only problem, he didn't know which room was hers. He had the building and the floor, but the rest was up to detective work. He circled the floor, looking at white board after white board hoping he could tell by the messages/names on the boards, which room belonged to Natalie. When he finally found the one that said "Natalie," he stopped, knocked, listened for noise inside, but got nothing! This day was really turning out to be a miss! Nowwww he felt defeated and decided he would make the trip back to his dorm room with his tail between his legs because his master plan hadn't worked out.
Not so fast though! As Corey was walking out of Natalie's dorm, she had finished up her breakfast and was making her way back INTO her dorm. Now if that's not fate, I don't know what is! He gave her a boyish smile and lifted both arms out in front of him saying "these are for youuuu." She gladly accepted and spent the rest of the day watching youtube videos and sledding with Corey, Laura and friends.
