Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is a stunning and unique destination located on the southeastern side of Oahu, Hawaii. Formed within a volcanic cone, this pristine marine ecosystem offers visitors an amazing place to snorkel and explore the diverse wildlife that inhabit the area. The bay is protected by vertical crater walls and a peripheral reef which help keep the water calm and tranquil, making it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling, and observing marine life. Visitors can expect to see hundreds of species of fish, coral, and other aquatic creatures while exploring Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.

Waikīkī Beach

Sharks Cove (usually less crowded than Hanauma Bay) is not just a snorkelers paradise—its a destination filled with natural beauty and opportunities for adventure. Recognized globally for its vibrant marine life and unique lava rock formations, its an essential stop for anyone visiting Oahus North Shore. If you bring children, to the left of Shark’s cove is an area of tidepools - perfect for kids to wade through and paddle around in. A word of caution for all, the lava rocks are very sharp. Remember to use caution as you get in and out of the water.

Originally operated as a fruit stand beginning in 1950, Dole Plantation opened to the public as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience” in 1989. Today, Dole Plantation is one of Oahu’s most popular visitor attractions and welcomes more than one million visitors a year. Dole Plantation provides enjoyable activities for the entire family, including the Pineapple Express Train Tour, the Plantation Garden Tour, and the Pineapple Garden Maze. Also popular are informational displays and presentations, as well as our plantation country store offering a wide variety of Dole Plantation gifts, local favorites, foods and refreshments including the world-famous Dole Soft Serve! And, before you leave you can purchase fresh pineapple to take home.

Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail paved moderate 2 mile hike. Bring lots of water. The Makapu‘u Point trail, within Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, offers outstanding views of O‘ahu’s southeastern coastline, including Koko Head and Koko Crater. From the trail’s destination at Makapu‘u Head, one is rewarded with magnificent views of the windward coast and offshore islets, as well as the historic red-roofed Makapu‘u Lighthouse built in 1909, which makes a stunning picture against the deep blue sea below (the lighthouse itself is off-limits). On a clear day, you may even see Moloka‘i and Lana‘i.

Free. Hoʻomaluhia translates “to cause or give peace,” and is exactly what you will find here… peace. Spanning 400 acres, this lush garden is surrounded by the Koolau Mountain Range. A casual visit will require at least an hour or two, but trekkers usually spend half a day here. Start by exploring the eight tropical gardens, each showcasing plant species from different regions such as Southeast Asia and Polynesia. Avid hikers have the option to tackle various nature trails; keep your eyes peeled for small and large birds, such as the cardinal or egret, amidst the breathtaking scenery.

Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden

The USS Arizona (BB-39) was a Pennsylvania-class battleship sunk during the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941. It was part of the Pacific Fleet and moored in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. The ship was hit by multiple bombs, resulting in a massive explosion and sinking, with over 1,100 crewmen killed. The USS Arizona is now commemorated by the USS Arizona Memorial, a permanent shrine operated by the National Park Service.
