As most of you know, Nathan and Katelyn were high school and college sweethearts! What most of you don't know is that Nathan and Katelyn could have been middle school sweethearts too; so their story goes even further back.

Although the two went to different schools, they grew up very close to each other. Katelyn grew up in Stanhope, IA and Nathan grew up on an acreage right outside of Stanhope. Nathan had several friends who attended South Hamilton, so even though he went to Roland-Story, he was still known in the South Hamilton community and Katelyn quickly found out who this kid was. During their seventh grade year, Nathan and Katelyn "talked" for quite some time and saw each other at Stanhope's famous Watermelon Day and school sporting events. However, they never dated and eventually faded away from each other.

Fast forward two years later, Nathan made his move and the young couple instantly re-connected. Nathan and Katelyn "talked" for three months before Nathan finally popped the question on April 17th, 2016, and there was the start of what they knew was going to be a forever kind of relationship. Throughout high school, Nathan and Katelyn were each other's biggest fans and never missed an event (even if it meant that Katelyn had to wear RS colors and Nathan had to wear SH colors).

Fast forward seven and a half years later, on October 6th, 2023, Katelyn finally got what she had been waiting years for. Nathan took her out for a walk at Ada Hayden in Ames, where their friends were hiding out in the bushes, ready to capture the moment everyone had been patiently waiting for. Nathan took Katelyn on an off-road path that overlooked the lake and had the sunset shining perfectly in the background, where he got down on one knee and asked Katelyn to officially be part of his life forever.

After almost eight years of being together, Nathan and I look back on the life we've had together and are looking forward to the years to come. Through all the good and all the bad that life threw at us over the years, we appreciate the journey and we appreciate you for being part of our journey!
