Delaney and I first met in college at Midland University. I remember the first time I talked to Delaney was when I was working an overnight security shift at the homeless shelter in Fremont, Nebraska. It was probably 2 or 3am on a weeknight, and I was looking at Instagram stories when I saw she had posted her Anatomy notes. This was great for me because I was awful at taking notes back then, so I thanked her for inadvertently helping me out. For some wild reason she was still up and responded almost immediately. This was great for me because I needed a pretty girl to talk to so I wouldn’t fall asleep on the job. We hit it off instantly and talked for at least an hour that night. I messaged her again a couple days later and she and I eventually became friends. About a month later I took her out on a date and we continued to hang out every now and then. We were solid friends for about a year but I never made a move to make anything serious. Delaney hated that. She got annoyed with me for not wanting to make things official and eventually stopped talking to me. Six months later I realized she really was and is the woman for me. So I tried to ease back into it. Unfortunately for Delaney, she couldn’t resist my charm and fell head over heels for me again. We talked all summer and finally made it “official” when we came back to college. We may have had our ups and downs, but sure enough we made it through and she convinced me to go to grad school in Kansas so I wouldn’t run away. This brought the longest three years of Delaney’s life as she had to wait for me to finally propose. We planned a picnic right before I had a trip to Texas. At first she was tearing up because I was going to be gone for 5 days. Then she cried when I proposed in the beautiful light of an Ottawa, Kansas sunset in March. We immediately rushed to the classiest place in town, Applebee’s. We celebrated with a couple drinks and have loved life ever since.
