While we did meet working together at Arrowhead on the telemetry floor, it was Nathan's main floor and Leah was floated there a lot. Our first encounter came, while we were working during COVID and everyone was wearing masks. In true Nathan fashion, he was running around like a chicken with its head cut off and Leah was one of the aids for the day. We did not have a lot of interactions that day but our first big interaction occurred when she came down to return a telemetry box from one of the patients that was discharging home. She saw Nathan in the hallway and being her outgoing self, decided to strike up a conversation with him. After chatting for 10 minutes, Nathan needed to get back to work and she did too. Nathan being a little bit of a creeper turned around to look at her as she walked away because he did not know why a spicy redhead decided to stop in the hallway to say hi.
Periodically throughout the year Nathan would see her on the medical floor when he got floated and back on telemetry floor when she got floated as well. We would strike up conversations from time to time sometimes professional, but more often more flirtatious. As time went by we exchanged phone numbers. Leah would text Nathan randomly asking questions or call him while she was on shift and he was sitting at home playing video games. This went back and forth for about a year before we started having lunch together on a regular basis. Being that Nathan was always late, he received a lot of phone calls about going to lunch so much so that whenever the caller ID showed Medical floor everyone would shout "Nathan its for you".
Nathan is as oblivious as his dad. Vicki always says she had to basically trip John into getting into a relationship with her because he was oblivious to her intentions. Leah most certainly had to do the same thing for me!
We went on a lot of "friend" dates before Leah took a chance and asked if Nathan wanted to meet her kids for a movie or game night. We went on many more dates and a day trip to Prescott.
Never would anyone have imagined that Nathan would fall for someone that had 4 children and a whole lot of baggage. He was pretty stubborn about it but Leah did not lose hope. It took a hard conversation and a lot of emotions but we walked the park and decided to give it a shot. Our first date was December 2, where Nathan learned Leah was much better with a gun than he had planned.
Nathan left Arizona for travel nursing and we managed to make it work. Many many driving miles, flying miles and 2 years of a long distance relationship, Nathan took a travel job back to Arizona so they could start their life together.
Nathan finally got the courage to pop the question and with the help of Leah's daughters, Nathan planned the perfect weekend. We took a weekend away as a family, hiked to the top Cathedral Rock and Nathan got down on one knee. With a very enthusiastic yes from Leah, the wedding planning began.
