Our story began during March Madness season. Kendra was working a shift that was supposed to be over, but a last-minute room service order kept her at the hotel longer than planned. By the time she made it back to the bar, it was packed, and she was ready to head home. But when she asked her co-worker if she needed help, she pointed her toward two locals—Nathanael and one of his best friends Josh—who were deep in a friendly gambling competition over the March Madness games.

Nathanael, with his competitive spirit, asked Kendra to pick his games for him. She just so happened to know a thing or two about college basketball and ended up helping him win a few rounds. From there, the conversation flowed, and they bonded over Philadelphia sports amongst other things.

As the night went on, Nathanael asked if he could take her to dinner. Naturally, her first instinct was to say no—common sense tells you not to say yes to two strangers at a bar! But when he asked if he could at least have her number, she agreed, thinking, Why not?
