Once upon a time... For nearly three months, Lizzie and Nate were in the same circles—going to Campus Outreach, church, and sharing mutual friends—yet they never spoke to each other. Even when Lizzie invited Nate to a board game party out of pity, they didn’t exchange a word, and neither thought anything of it.That all changed on November 14, 2023, when they finally had their first real conversation after a CO meeting. They instantly clicked, discovering surprising similarities in how they grew up, their families, values, and interests. That night stirred the first sparks for Nate, it took a little bit longer for Lizzie to get hooked.Over time, they grew closer. Then in January 2024, Nate asked her on a date. She said no. A month later, he tried again—this time with flowers on Valentine’s Day. She still said no, but she agreed to dinner to talk about the future. That dinner was full of deep conversation and an understanding that things would work out, it was just a matter of when.On May 1st, they finally went on their first date—walking under the stars at Freedom Park, more infatuated with each other than what was around them. Just three days later, on May 4th, Nate asked Lizzie to be his girlfriend. This time she said yes with joy and excitement.Ten days later, they were apart for the summer—Nate in Massachusetts, Lizzie in Kenya—but they stayed close through letters and stories about their summers. By the time school started again, they both knew: this was it.Nate began planning the proposal over winter break and chose the spot where their love began—Freedom Park. On February 1st, 2025, after some necessary stalling, a crowded parking lot, and a sock with a ring box in it, Nate dropped to one knee and asked the most important question of his life.“Will you marry me?”Lizzie said yes.
