What began as a professional connection soon turned into a love neither expected. Nekisha Michelle and Abdoulie first met through a Global Community group, where Abdoulie, a registered nurse, gave a presentation on psychopharmacology.

At the time, Nekisha, a doctoral student in clinical psychology and practicing psychotherapist, reached out for help understanding medications and mental health symptoms. His kindness, patience, and depth of knowledge drew her in — and over time, their conversations grew into something far more personal.

They spoke every single day via WhatsApp video calls, sometimes for hours, sharing not just dreams and goals but the small, everyday moments that knit two lives together. In June 2025, Nekisha traveled to The Gambia. For nearly a month, they were inseparable — staying in their own apartment, cooking together, meeting his family, and being embraced by his community. She was welcomed by religious leaders who prayed over their union and moved by a visit to Juffere Village, home to the family of Kunta Kinte from ROOTS.

One sunny afternoon, Abdoulie surprised her with a romantic beach proposal. Along with gaining a loving partner, Nekisha feels blessed to become a mother figure to Abdoulie’s joyful two-year-old son, who has captured her heart completely.

Abdoulie told her, “I have already locked us together and thrown the key into the ocean. My goal is to make you so happy you will forget the pain and disappointment of your past.” She replied, “All I want is to spend this life and the next with you. I choose you over and over again.”

They are now planning a wedding that reflects both their cultures, their faith, and their unwavering commitment to The Plus Side of Love.
