It all began with a banana shirt and a dad joke. No one knew what those two things would lead to.

She was busy living her life as a bubbly rookie nurse at Baytown Methodist Hospital. He was busy fighting crime as a grizzled veteran police officer for the Houston Police Department. Little did they know that the cliche of a cop being with a nurse was about to happen organically.

Their love lives led them to looking for love online in a little website called "Hinge". She was wearing a blue tank top and knew what she was doing with that picture. She was an obvious catch, and any man would be lucky to get matched with her. He had to rely on his personality coming through online. The picture of him smiling carefree in banana shirt with finger guns caught her eye.

One of her prompts that caught his eye was that she was a fan of "dad jokes". He relied on his wit and initiated a conversation with the question, "When does a joke become a dad joke?"

She responded with a thoughtful response thinking that he had misunderstood the prompt by saying "When a joke is corny and cheesy."

Hook, line, sinker. He got her hooked by saying "Wrong! A joke becomes a dad joke when it becomes apparent" *ba dum tss*

They went on multiple dates, took it slow, met each other's family, went to church together, met each other's friends, went on trips, and experienced a love they had never had before.

He had been in long relationships before and knew this love was different. He received the blessing from the parent's.

They were set to go on a week long cruise with each other, her sister, and her boyfriend. She had an idea that an engagement could be a possibility. She didn't want to get her hopes up.

He knew she might be curious, so he hid the ring box inside a "Yeti" tumbler cup to hide it from prying eyes. There were many times that she almost ruined the surprise. Luckily, she did not.

After the "captain's dinner", they took pictures together with the professional photographers. He surprised everyone with one final picture pose. He got down on one knee as she turned around and immediately started to "ugly cry". He had promised her before the trip that she would. Once the shock wore off, she finally nodded yes.

They still make each other laugh even though she gets the most joy from roasting him to no end.
