Our story began in late 2013 as Ngoc walked into the San Francisco headquarters of Revel Systems for an interview. While waiting on a comfy couch until the hiring manager was ready to chat she couldn’t help but notice the “Mexican boy” walk past her on the way to the kitchen. In case you’re confused, that “Mexican boy” was Jeff. So what was Jeff thinking? Well, Jeff also noticed the young, pretty “Filipino girl” that would soon become his coworker. As you can tell by now, neither of them were very good at assumptions at that age.
When Ngoc landed the job, a friendship immediately formed. They walked to BART together. Daily lunch buddies. They instant messaged at the office and texted after hours. Things started to get interesting at Revel’s annual holiday party, “Revelry”, where Ngoc invited a few friends and her older sister, Thuy, to join in on the fun. Ngoc and Jeff chatted most of the night and her girls instantly knew there was something there especially after he hit the Dougie dance. Unfortunately the night got cut short as Jeff’s sales team went into a hormone and Jameson induced feeding frenzy at the sight of attractive women, sending Ngoc and crew off to do their own thing.
Fast forward a month later and Ngoc invited Jeff out to a round of beers after work. Jeff remembers being surprised as he didnt take Ngoc as much of a beer drinker. Turns out, his intuition was very, very accurate. “I like everything except dark beers,” Ngoc told Jeff as they agreed to order a few flights. Or at least that’s what Jeff thought she said, because Ngoc proceeded to order a full 6-beer flight of nothing but stouts and dark lagers. When the flights were delivered, Ngoc’s face said it all.
“I fucked up.”
Jeff was thrilled to have found something new that they had in common. They were both full of shit. Once the “delicious” beers were gone, Jeff and Ngoc stumbled over to The Naked Lunch to transition to shots. One shot turned into two, two turned into three, and the night flew by. It was time to go home. As Ngoc waited outside, Jeff hit the restroom. What he didn’t know was that an aggressive homeless man was antagonizing the outside tables. Once Jeff noticed, he quickly walked in between Ngoc and the homeless man. Ngoc responded by firmly grasping Jeff’s hand. The funny thing? They never stopped holding hands as they made the 20-minute walk to BART.
That’s right. A homeless man roaming the streets of San Francisco, spitting on software engineers as they sipped on Moscow Mules, was Jeff and Ngoc’s Cupid. His foul odor and aggression was the arrow that made them fall instantly in love.
Going on 9 years later, their relationship is as strong as ever. It’s a relationship built on a foundation of love, laughter, and other words people on Pinterest turn into home decorations. But in all seriousness, in many ways they’ve grown up together. And now, they’ve made the decision to grow old together.
The next step? We look forward to officially tying the knot in front of YOU, our closest family and friends. You have all played such an incredible part in our relationship and we cannot wait to celebrate, together, on July 23rd.
