The COOLEST way to get to Key West. The boat leaves out of either port of Fort Myers Beach or Marco Island. The ride is about 3 1/2 - 4 Hours. Full Bar and food options aboard. A little more expenisve choice, but would save a flight into Key west or finding a way from another airport( Fort Lauderdale/Miami ). Nick and Sarah have used this service twice, amazing service and a great relaxing/scenic way to get to the Keys. Our first time to Key West we took this boat from Fort Myers. You may choose to Fly into Fort Myers Airport (RSW) , spend a night or two there and catch the boat out at 8 AM and arrive to Key west near Noon. They often have special rates near the holidays so if you are interested please reach out to us and we will keep you in the loop or answer more questions about the experience.
Southwest is our favorite airline, with usual low fares. Southwest offers flights out of Midway and Ohare to Fort Myers, Tampa Bay, Fort Lauderdale or Miami. They DO NOT Fly to Key West. There are option to take a smaller plane from these Florida Airports to Key West.

The Overseas Highway, which connects Miami to Key West, was ranked as one of the top scenic drives in the entire world!
Although the route is picturesque, please plan buffer time into your travel plans since it is a mostly single-lane highway in both directions. The roughly 125-mile stretch can become backed up by tourism traffic and/or accidents. Traffic is particularly heavy on Sundays as Floridians head home from weekend vacations and tourists drive back to the airport. If traveling to FTL/MIA for your flight back, we recommend planning extra time or spending the night before your flight in Fort Lauderdale/Miami.
If you have time on your side and can't pass up the incredible views, the extra time spent driving won't disappoint. For those that do drive, reach out to us if you'd like a list of recommendations for where to stop for lunch, attractions, or accommodations along the way.
A very budget friendly option is to take a Greyhound bus from the south florida airports to Key West. Sarah and Nick did this once, it was a very comfortable and very easy trip. They stop half way for 1 break. Rates are as low as 25 dollars per person one way. The ride is about 3-4 hours from Miami.
Due to the small proximity of the island, we do not recommend renting a car unless you are driving from FLL/MIA. Some hotels allow you to park for free, but parking can be a costly issue within the city.
Many hotels or B&Bs have complimentary daily shuttle services that makes visiting downtown Key West hassle-free.
Uber and Lyft are readily available and an inexpensive way to get around.
Golf carts and scooters are a fun way to get around and can be rented from multiple locations on the island.
You can expect to walk/bike to most places. Many hotels offer free bikes. During November in Key West, it will be a great way to get around town or way to get to the beach.
