If you are staying for a few extra days and want to explore, I highly recommend taking one or more days to visit Palenque, Chiapas. This magical town is about 1.5 to 2 hours from Villahermosa. The main tourist attraction is the archaeological site, featuring ancient Mayan pyramids. You can also find beautiful rivers, waterfalls and enjoy nature, or take a stroll downtown to learn about Mayan culture.
