There are so many fun things to do and places to explore on a holiday weekend! Here are some of our recommendations:
A world-renowned art museum with one of the largest collections in the country, you could spend days here seeing all the galleries! Check out the Diego Rivera murals and art pieces from around the world.
Visit the sheds and surrounding stores of Eastern Market. The Saturday Market is a true farmer's market with lots of local produce. Their Sunday Market is more of a street market, showing off the work of local artists, cooks, jewelers, musicians, and more.
A great park on an island in the middle of the Detroit River. Enjoy beautiful views of both Detroit and Windsor. This is where David proposed to Nikki after a scavenger hunt all around Metro Detroit!
Take a cruise down the Detroit River and enjoy the late summer weather! Relax while taking in the sights of Detroit and Windsor.
Visit Hitsville U.S.A. and learn all about the creation and legacy of Motown music! Recently renovated, the museum is located in the original headquarters and recording studio for Motown Records. Admission is by guided tour only and we recommend if you want to visit to get your tickets ahead of time. Tour times open up three weeks in advance.
In Dearborn, you can visit the Henry Ford campus and tour its museums. The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation houses many pieces of American history, including the bus that Rosa Parks rode, presidential vehicles, and the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Greenfield Village will take you back in time to Thomas Edison's lab, and you can take a ride on a Model T. If the assembly of cars is what you are interested in, head over to the Ford Rouge Factory Tour and get to see how the Ford F-150 is made!
Nikki and David love taking walks around the zoo and seeing what animals are out to play. Nikki's favorite animals to watch are the otters, and David's are the penguins and the macaque monkeys. Note that despite being the Detroit Zoo, it is located in Royal Oak.
Franklin Cider Mill opens for the season on Saturday, September 2nd! Come and get incredible apple cider, donuts, and more at this family-owned, Metro-Detroit staple.
