In&nbsp;the&nbsp;bustling&nbsp;hallways&nbsp;of&nbsp;Dutch&nbsp;Fork&nbsp;High&nbsp;School,&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;first&nbsp;noticed&nbsp;Nicole.&nbsp;She&nbsp;was&nbsp;always&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;move,&nbsp;from&nbsp;classroom&nbsp;to&nbsp;classroom,&nbsp;eyebrows&nbsp;furrowed,&nbsp;juggling&nbsp;an&nbsp;oversized&nbsp;backpack&nbsp;on&nbsp;one&nbsp;shoulder&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;50-pound&nbsp;golf&nbsp;bag&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;other.&nbsp; Cody&nbsp;admired&nbsp;her&nbsp;from&nbsp;afar,&nbsp;impressed&nbsp;by&nbsp;her&nbsp;athleticism,&nbsp;smarts,&nbsp;and&nbsp;that&nbsp;subtle&nbsp;smile—but&nbsp;like&nbsp;most&nbsp;high&nbsp;school&nbsp;crushes,&nbsp;he&nbsp;wasn’t&nbsp;quite&nbsp;sure&nbsp;how&nbsp;to&nbsp;approach&nbsp;her. Senior&nbsp;year&nbsp;rolled&nbsp;around,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;found&nbsp;himself&nbsp;in&nbsp;need&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nbsp;prom&nbsp;date.&nbsp;Through&nbsp;a&nbsp;bit&nbsp;of&nbsp;luck&nbsp;(and&nbsp;his&nbsp;friend&nbsp;Jordan),&nbsp;the&nbsp;opportunity&nbsp;presented&nbsp;itself&nbsp;to&nbsp;ask&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;out.&nbsp;Playing&nbsp;it&nbsp;cool,&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;sends&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;a&nbsp;message&nbsp;on&nbsp;Facebook.&nbsp;This&nbsp;was&nbsp;before&nbsp;“sliding&nbsp;into&nbsp;DMs”&nbsp;was&nbsp;a&nbsp;thing,&nbsp;but&nbsp;it&nbsp;got&nbsp;the&nbsp;job&nbsp;done. Nicole,&nbsp;meanwhile,&nbsp;sees&nbsp;the&nbsp;message&nbsp;pop&nbsp;up&nbsp;from&nbsp;"Cody&nbsp;Kaminski.”&nbsp;She&nbsp;kind&nbsp;of&nbsp;recognized&nbsp;the&nbsp;name&nbsp;but&nbsp;couldn’t&nbsp;place&nbsp;it&nbsp;exactly.&nbsp;Curious,&nbsp;she&nbsp;clicks&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;message: "Hey&nbsp;Nicole!&nbsp;You&nbsp;play&nbsp;golf,&nbsp;right?&nbsp;I&nbsp;know&nbsp;this&nbsp;seems&nbsp;random,&nbsp;but&nbsp;we&nbsp;go&nbsp;to&nbsp;Dutch&nbsp;Fork&nbsp;together,&nbsp;and&nbsp;I’ve&nbsp;seen&nbsp;you&nbsp;around&nbsp;the&nbsp;halls.&nbsp;I’ve&nbsp;always&nbsp;thought&nbsp;you&nbsp;were&nbsp;really&nbsp;cute&nbsp;and&nbsp;wanted&nbsp;to&nbsp;know&nbsp;if&nbsp;you&nbsp;had&nbsp;any&nbsp;plans&nbsp;for&nbsp;prom&nbsp;this&nbsp;year?" It&nbsp;was&nbsp;bold,&nbsp;direct,&nbsp;and—she&nbsp;had&nbsp;to&nbsp;admit—pretty&nbsp;intriguing.&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;spent&nbsp;a&nbsp;few&nbsp;minutes&nbsp;scrolling&nbsp;through&nbsp;Cody’s&nbsp;profile.&nbsp;Not&nbsp;bad&nbsp;looking.&nbsp;Actually,&nbsp;kinda&nbsp;attractive.&nbsp;Maybe&nbsp;half-Asian&nbsp;like&nbsp;her?&nbsp;Hmm.&nbsp;After&nbsp;weighing&nbsp;the&nbsp;options&nbsp;in&nbsp;her&nbsp;mind,&nbsp;she&nbsp;decided&nbsp;to&nbsp;respond&nbsp;with&nbsp;a&nbsp;simple&nbsp;"Nope."&nbsp;It&nbsp;wasn’t&nbsp;much,&nbsp;but&nbsp;it&nbsp;was&nbsp;enough&nbsp;to&nbsp;get&nbsp;things&nbsp;started. They&nbsp;decided&nbsp;to&nbsp;meet&nbsp;at&nbsp;the&nbsp;good&nbsp;ol’&nbsp;YMCA.&nbsp;Cody,&nbsp;in&nbsp;classic&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;fashion,&nbsp;surprised&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;mid-sprint&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;treadmill.&nbsp;She&nbsp;wasn’t&nbsp;exactly&nbsp;prepared&nbsp;for&nbsp;that,&nbsp;but&nbsp;his&nbsp;unexpected&nbsp;baritone&nbsp;voice&nbsp;and&nbsp;easygoing&nbsp;nature&nbsp;caught&nbsp;her&nbsp;off&nbsp;guard...&nbsp;in&nbsp;a&nbsp;good&nbsp;way.&nbsp;More&nbsp;handsome&nbsp;in&nbsp;person&nbsp;for&nbsp;sure,&nbsp;and&nbsp;he&nbsp;even&nbsp;had&nbsp;this&nbsp;kind,&nbsp;well-spoken,&nbsp;and&nbsp;down-to-earth&nbsp;demeanor&nbsp;that&nbsp;she&nbsp;wasn’t&nbsp;expecting–Cody&nbsp;definitely&nbsp;made&nbsp;an&nbsp;impression&nbsp;on&nbsp;her. Towards&nbsp;the&nbsp;end&nbsp;of&nbsp;their&nbsp;conversation,&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;officially&nbsp;asked&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;to&nbsp;prom,&nbsp;and&nbsp;to&nbsp;his&nbsp;surprise&nbsp;(and&nbsp;hers)&nbsp;she&nbsp;said&nbsp;“Sure!”.&nbsp;Their&nbsp;first&nbsp;meeting&nbsp;ended&nbsp;with&nbsp;an&nbsp;awkward&nbsp;high-five&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;promise&nbsp;to&nbsp;“catch&nbsp;you&nbsp;later,”&nbsp;sealing&nbsp;their&nbsp;first&nbsp;unofficial&nbsp;date. &nbsp; Prom&nbsp;night&nbsp;itself&nbsp;was&nbsp;a&nbsp;whirlwind,&nbsp;and&nbsp;at&nbsp;some&nbsp;point&nbsp;near&nbsp;the&nbsp;end&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;night,&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;mustered&nbsp;up&nbsp;the&nbsp;courage&nbsp;to&nbsp;ask&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;to&nbsp;be&nbsp;his&nbsp;girlfriend&nbsp;while&nbsp;sitting&nbsp;by&nbsp;the&nbsp;side&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nbsp;friend's&nbsp;backyard&nbsp;pool.&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;hesitated,&nbsp;still&nbsp;thinking&nbsp;it&nbsp;through,&nbsp;gave&nbsp;him&nbsp;a&nbsp;“maybe,”&nbsp;but&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;took&nbsp;it&nbsp;as&nbsp;a&nbsp;win—after&nbsp;all,&nbsp;“maybe”&nbsp;wasn’t&nbsp;a&nbsp;“no.” Their&nbsp;high&nbsp;school&nbsp;romance&nbsp;lasted&nbsp;about&nbsp;10&nbsp;months—fun,&nbsp;lighthearted,&nbsp;filled&nbsp;with&nbsp;those&nbsp;typical&nbsp;highs&nbsp;and&nbsp;lows&nbsp;of&nbsp;young&nbsp;love.&nbsp;But&nbsp;eventually,&nbsp;life&nbsp;took&nbsp;them&nbsp;in&nbsp;separate&nbsp;directions:&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;went&nbsp;off&nbsp;to&nbsp;Clemson&nbsp;for&nbsp;engineering,&nbsp;while&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;remained&nbsp;at&nbsp;Dutch&nbsp;Fork&nbsp;to&nbsp;finish&nbsp;her&nbsp;studies,&nbsp;heartbroken&nbsp;but&nbsp;resilient.&nbsp;&nbsp;She&nbsp;later&nbsp;made&nbsp;her&nbsp;way&nbsp;to&nbsp;Wofford&nbsp;College,&nbsp;balancing&nbsp;Division&nbsp;1&nbsp;golf&nbsp;with&nbsp;her&nbsp;psychology&nbsp;degree.&nbsp;As&nbsp;difficult&nbsp;as&nbsp;their&nbsp;breakup&nbsp;was&nbsp;at&nbsp;the&nbsp;time,&nbsp;it&nbsp;ultimately&nbsp;set&nbsp;the&nbsp;stage&nbsp;for&nbsp;something&nbsp;better&nbsp;down&nbsp;the&nbsp;road. For&nbsp;four&nbsp;years,&nbsp;their&nbsp;paths&nbsp;didn’t&nbsp;cross&nbsp;as&nbsp;they&nbsp;went&nbsp;about&nbsp;their&nbsp;own&nbsp;lives.&nbsp;But&nbsp;fate&nbsp;had&nbsp;other&nbsp;plans&nbsp;when&nbsp;a&nbsp;Snapchat&nbsp;message&nbsp;from&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;reopened&nbsp;a&nbsp;door&nbsp;they&nbsp;both&nbsp;thought&nbsp;had&nbsp;closed.&nbsp;A&nbsp;hike&nbsp;at&nbsp;Table&nbsp;Rock&nbsp;rekindled&nbsp;their&nbsp;connection,&nbsp;and&nbsp;they&nbsp;decided&nbsp;to&nbsp;give&nbsp;their&nbsp;relationship&nbsp;another&nbsp;shot—this&nbsp;time&nbsp;with&nbsp;a&nbsp;bit&nbsp;more&nbsp;maturity&nbsp;and&nbsp;perspective. Since&nbsp;then,&nbsp;they’ve&nbsp;been&nbsp;navigating&nbsp;life&nbsp;together,&nbsp;tackling&nbsp;everything&nbsp;from&nbsp;real&nbsp;estate&nbsp;ventures&nbsp;to&nbsp;music&nbsp;production,&nbsp;while&nbsp;spending&nbsp;time&nbsp;with&nbsp;family&nbsp;and&nbsp;friends,&nbsp;old&nbsp;and&nbsp;new,&nbsp;traveling&nbsp;to&nbsp;new&nbsp;places,&nbsp;and&nbsp;taking&nbsp;on&nbsp;new&nbsp;jobs&nbsp;and&nbsp;opportunities.&nbsp;Along&nbsp;the&nbsp;way,&nbsp;Cody&nbsp;and&nbsp;Nicole&nbsp;have&nbsp;learned&nbsp;to&nbsp;embrace&nbsp;each&nbsp;other’s&nbsp;quirks&nbsp;and&nbsp;strengths,&nbsp;figuring&nbsp;out&nbsp;how&nbsp;to&nbsp;make&nbsp;life&nbsp;work&nbsp;better&nbsp;as&nbsp;a&nbsp;team. Now,&nbsp;with&nbsp;their&nbsp;wedding&nbsp;set&nbsp;for&nbsp;November&nbsp;15,&nbsp;2024,&nbsp;they’re&nbsp;excited&nbsp;to&nbsp;continue&nbsp;this&nbsp;journey&nbsp;together,&nbsp;filled&nbsp;with&nbsp;new&nbsp;adventures,&nbsp;laughs,&nbsp;a&nbsp;lot&nbsp;of&nbsp;love,&nbsp;and&nbsp;maybe&nbsp;even&nbsp;a&nbsp;few&nbsp;more&nbsp;awkward&nbsp;high-fives&nbsp;along&nbsp;the&nbsp;way.
