Isla Mujeres (island of women) is a city on the island of the same name, located in the Caribbean Sea in southeastern Mexico and is approximately 13 kilometres from the city of Cancun. Its warm and transparent waters are the perfect home for dolphins and turtles as it is located close to one of many coral reefs, making the area popular for snorkelling and scuba diving.

On the east is the Caribbean Sea with a strong surf and rocky coast, and on the west the skyline of Cancun is seen across the clear waters. On the north end is Centro with a famous beach called Playa Norte.

At the southern tip of the island there are vestiges of a Mayan temple. Archaeologists know that Isla Mujeres was a sanctuary dedicated to Ixchel, Mayan goddess of fertility and that the Mayan females had to make a pilgrimage to the island as part of their passage from girl to woman.
