John Michael and Nicole's story began during a sno-cone-filled, energy drink-driven summer spent with the Connect Camps Blue Team which (despite the dismay of a certain Rec Director) was dubbed "the Blueberries." They spent nine weeks traveling around the Southeast, spreading the gospel, and falling head over heels for each other. Late nights and early mornings led to a genuine friendship and mutual interest that continued after the summer.

The original plan for their first date was to meet halfway in Columbus, GA for the day. However, after Nicole's car broke down, the first date resulted in John Michael driving from Locust Grove to Moultrie, Moultrie to Columbus, Columbus to Moultrie, and Moultrie to Locus Grove, for a total of eleven hours in a span of twenty-four. Thankfully, the lack of sleep deprivation did not dissuade him from asking for a second date!

That fall was filled with epic board game battles, Stone Mountain hikes, festival dates, and classic school dances. They were each introduced to each other's friends and got to spend time with their favorite people as a couple (shout out to the world's best bridal party:)

Spring of 2024 found the two of them attending weddings, playing pickleball, and introducing each other to their favorite hobbies! John Michael was a gracious and patient teacher when it came to showing Nicole how to play video games (platforming aside), and Nicole was excited to teach John Michael the ins and outs of painting pottery!

As Nicole began to explore her post-graduation options, conversations began to drift towards the future. Without her knowledge, John Michael began making plans to solidify the direction of their relationship.

This photo was taken approximately one week after John Michael asked Nicole's dad for his blessing to marry Nicole..... she had absolutely no idea!

After a recreation of their first date, John Michael took Nicole on a walk along the river in Columbus, Georgia. The walk ended on an island in the river, where he popped the question!

Nicole moved to Indianapolis to start graduate school in August. John Michael followed shortly after in October. The next months were spent using Nicole's kitchen to test newly developed cooking skills, wedding planning, and spending time together.

Since moving to the Midwest, John Michael and Nicole have learned to brave subzero temperatures, gusts of wind, and 13+ inches of snow. They are excitedly awaiting the wedding and look forward to celebrating with all their family and friends!
