It all started on January 30, 2022. A night full of laughter and music brought a boy from Hickory and a girl from High Point together in Charlotte. Nicole was out celebrating Chloe’s birthday, dancing the night away with her friends. Rafa was out with his boys, never expecting the night to change his life.

At Tequila House, Rafa spotted Nicole across the room and was immediately struck by her beauty. He told his friends, “I’m going to dance with her.” And so he did. Nicole, curious but cautious, looked to her friends for approval before accepting his invitation to dance. What started as one song turned into an entire night of dancing, laughter, and an undeniable connection.

From that moment, it was clear—there was something special between them. Though they lived hours apart—Nicole in Raleigh and Rafa in Hickory—they were determined to make it work. Every weekend, Rafa drove to Raleigh to see her, and their bond only deepened with time.

On May 14, 2022, Rafa asked Nicole to be his girlfriend. They traveled together, with Nicole introducing Rafa to new places, including Puerto Rico. What Nicole didn’t know was that Rafa had been planning something big.

After 2 years of love and adventure, Rafa was ready to take the next step. During their trip to Puerto Rico, he secretly arranged for her family to fly in and to be part of a life-changing moment. On June 6, 2024, they visited El Morro, Nicole couldn’t help but sense Rafa’s nervousness. Little did she know, her family was waiting, and Rafa had a question that would change everything.

As they reached a quiet spot overlooking the ocean, Rafa dropped to one knee, his heart racing. “Nicole, will you marry me?” he asked, his voice filled with emotion. With tears in her eyes and a heart full of love, Nicole said, “Yes!”
