Madi:Okay Nik, so how did we meet?
Nik:The year was 2010 and I was kind of chubby, so I decided to run Cross Country as a freshman in high school. I was on JV2 and we had our meet at Mary S. Young… it was a 5K race.
Madi: Wowww!
Nik:Yeah that’s right. I was friends with two of your friends who were also on my team, and as I was warming up in our tent they called me over to introduce me to you. I came strutting over in my thigh high shorts.
Madi:Strutting over?!!
Nik:Yes, I came strutting over in my thigh high shorts and tank top looking very fine. I introduced myself and confidently told you to look for me near the front of the race as I was planning on winning it… SARCASTICALLY!
Madi:*laughs*
Nik:Which went straight over your head. The race started and I did my usual thing where I sprint out with everyone so I don’t look dumb in front of the fans. 10 minutes into the race I walk a little bit because I get tired, then I jog and walk, jog and walk, until I finish the race a little after the next race has started.
Madi:And what place did you finish?
Nik:3rd to last….
Madi:So I’m looking for you to come in 1st…no, 2nd…no, 3rd…no, the next 30 runners come in…
Nik:There were like 50 runners actually.
Madi:And then comes Nik!
Nik:Then I finished the race…. and all these years later I find out you thought I had pulled a hamstring or something and that’s why I wasn’t winning… not because I was this chubby kid who wasn’t going to win!
Madi:We then became best friends and later made it through over 4 years of 6,493 miles of distance. We have been lucky enough to have had so many wonderful experiences and traveled together because of both our families. Now we are so excited to almost be over the hump of distance and to be starting this whole new adventure of marriage together!
