Our love story begins at Seneca Lake, a place we both hold dear, brimming with memories that have lasted a lifetime. Nikki spent countless days and nights of her childhood at "Camp Schamel," her best friend’s family home, which just so happens to be a few doors down from Mark’s house. Peach Orchard Point became her favorite spot in the world, just as it was for Mark, surrounded by some of their favorite people from the lake. Growing up on the lake separately was something both Mark and Nikki treasured. Little did we know, this shared connection would be the spark that ignited our journey together.

Nikki and Mark come from sports families. In fact, her father was Mark’s football coach in highschool. Following in her Dad’s footsteps, Nikki became the swim coach for Watkins Glen, which led her to coaching Sarah and Ben, two of Mark’s children. Sarah was affectionately known as “The Favorite Swimmer” among Nikki’s friends.

Though we knew one another through swimming and as locals in Watkins Glen, our paths didn’t truly cross until Nikki's former swim coach, Lam—who also happens to be Mark's best friend’s mother—saw a potential romance in the making. She playfully suggested to Mark that he and Nikki would make a great match and even reached out to Nikki to share the same idea. However, life kept us busy, and months passed without any further connection.

Everything changed at a swim meet where, amidst the excitement of the big meet, Mark and Nikki felt a palpable spark. Despite this newfound chemistry, neither of them made a move. However, destiny had other plans. When Nikki posted a photo on Instagram a few months later, Mark mustered the courage to reach out.

Coincidentally, Nikki was about to embark on a week-long vacation with a friend. As fate would have it, they began texting non-stop throughout her trip. Nikki's friend affectionately dubbed it “Disney Magic”—and it truly felt magical.

Upon her return, they wasted no time planning their first date. A hike through a local state park, accompanied by Mark's adorable dogs, Scout and Mabel, marked the beginning of something extraordinary. What started as a simple walk soon blossomed into an undeniable connection that neither of them expected, including Scout and Mabel.

From that moment on, their bond deepened into something beautiful. This was the beginning of an incredible adventure, one that neither of them had dared to imagine.
