Cocktail attire. The aesthetic of the venue is retro 70s/80s. Don’t feel obligated to wear anything you’re not comfortable in, but feel free to let that funky spirit thrive! (This is not a theme wedding but we welcome you to have fun with it!)
Is there parking?
Parking near venue is limited on-street. Highly recommend Uber/Lyft.
Is this outdoors?
Pending rain, ceremony and cocktail hour will be on the 7th floor terrace. Reception to follow is in the gymnasium on the ground floor. Recommend to bring a light cover for outdoor portion if the weather is seasonably cool.
Can I bring my children?
We ask no children at this adult event. We want you to enjoy the night, enjoy the city, and enjoy yourself!
Where should I stay for the weekend?
We have two hotel blocks in Center City (see travel tab for details) approx 15 min drive from the venue. There are many options for Airbnb, VRBO, and hotels around the city. We recommend staying in Center City, South Philly, Fishtown/Northern Liberties.
For guests new to Philly, caution staying in/around North Philadelphia (Kensington, Temple University area, North Broad street, locations north of Girard Ave). There are great restaurants/spaces in these neighborhoods, but for safety concerns we recommend staying elsewhere. Please text Nina if you have any concerns or questions.
What is this venue?
Bok is a former technical high school! "Funded through FDR’s Public Works Administration, the building was built in 1936 to accommodate 3,000 students from across Philadelphia studying subjects from wallpapering to cosmetology to auto mechanics to bricklaying.
Formally known as the Bok Vocational High School, the building opened to students in 1938. Many of the classrooms were purpose-built to accommodate trade-specific study — like the steel rooms built for welding materials that exist inside many of the spaces. Or the first floor rear of the building that was an auto mechanic shop, or the 3rd floor full kitchen built to train students in culinary arts.
Decreased enrollment in its later years and escalating deferred maintenance challenged the building. In 2013, the School District of Philadelphia closed the school and put it up for public auction.
Bok's classrooms and learning spaces have been repurposed into workspaces for Philadelphia makers, businesses, nonprofits, and artists. 61% South Philly resident-owned businesses, 52% women-owned businesses, 87% self-owned businesses."
We are really excited for you to see this space!
What's for dinner?
Dinner is cocktail style dining with options from two food trucks. There is no "formal" sit down but you'll have an assigned table to eat at and leave your personal items. Grab a drink, have some food, and mingle. We'll see you on the dance floor!
