It was July of 2020, and after quarantining for a few months with her parents, Nisha thought it wouldn’t hurt to get back on the dating apps, outside dining had just opened up after all. She matched with Manuel (who was living in Mill Valley at the time), they messaged back and forth, and after a couple of sweet phone calls, they decided to go on a date. They met at an Italian restaurant near Nisha’s parents place in North Beach. Eight hours later, after lunch, a gelato picnic in Washington Square Park and 24,000 steps exploring North Beach, followed by dinner, they knew they would be seeing each other again. Of course it was during Covid so Nisha had a lot of explaining to do once she got home. But her parents saw how happy she was and one week later, she moved back to her apartment. The next day Manuel asked her to be his girlfriend.
Over the next several months, Nisha and Manuel got to know each other quickly- cooking dinner, having their own game nights and karaoke sessions at home. And as things got safer, they integrated each other into their warm and welcoming families.
After eight months, Manuel moved into Nisha’s Sunset apartment and one year later they found their own place 2 blocks down across the street from Golden Gate Park, where they have made their home.
This April, Manuel told Nisha he wanted to recreate their first date and took her back to Washington Square Park. Only 10 minutes of reminiscing and Manuel got down on one knee and popped the question! Nisha of course said yes and turned her head to find both of their families cheering them on. The champagne was popped and it was truly the best day ever.
