Attire

Weddings in most parts of the world celebrate the two individuals getting married. In Indian weddings, the celebration is of the two families coming together, complete with all their similarities, quirks and differences.

An Indian wedding would appear like a grand spectacle, much like a gala festival peppered with lots of interesting events. An Indian wedding entails a number of rituals guided by tradition and yet is a fun filled event that every guest can enjoy.

To help you navigate this maze of what to wear to an Indian wedding, we have detailed appropriate attire for each event. We invite you to wear what you are most comfortable in whether it is Indian or Western attire.

Mendhi

During the mendhi event, all women are invited to some henna done on their hand. The darkness of the mendhi on Nisha's hands symbolizes the deep love between her and Ben.

Female Guests Attire:

Indian Option: Anarkali or Salwar Chemise

Western Option: Colorful short or maxi dress, Fancy Pantsuit

Male Guests Attire:

Indian Option: Kurta

Western Option: Button Down and Slacks

Garba & Sangeet

This night is full of traditional Indian dancing. It will include some performances and Indian stick dancing that we will teach everyone!

Female Guests Attire:

Indian Option: Chania Choli, Lehenga, Sari, or Anarkali

Western Option:Long Cocktail Dress - colorful and sparkly welcome!

Male Guests Attire:

Indian Option: Indo-Western Suit or Kurta

Western Option: Sport Coat, no tie

Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is the most traditional portion of the wedding, so we advise you stick to formal, traditional attire. In Indian weddings, the bride wears red so you should avoid wearing too much red.

Wear comfortable shoes, some walking involved.

Female Guests Attire:

Indian Option: Sari

Western Option: Cocktail Attire

Male Guests Attire:

Indian Option: Sherwani, Kurta, or Jacket

Western Option: Suit & Tie

Reception

The reception is a lavish evening, as you would find at most weddings. The attire for this event is Black Tie, whether you decide to do it with an Indian twist or not! Indian Gowns or Long gowns of any type for ladies if you like.
