Traveling internationally for the first time? Nervous about a language barrier? Don’t sweat it – the list below includes all of the essentials you should plan for while traveling.
For specific tips on getting a great flight deal and/or traveling before or after the wedding, check out the 'Travel Tips' and 'Traveling Europe' tabs.
This is the most critical step, and processing can take >12 weeks. If this is your first time obtaining a passport, you will likely need an in-person appointment. If you already have a passport, you will need to ensure your passport will not expire within 6 months after the wedding (or by 12/31/2023). Authorities may not allow you into France (and other countries) if your passport will be expiring soon. You can learn more about the passport application/renewal process at this link. Please contact Cory if you have any questions about this process.
A visa for France is not required for those traveling with a US passport, but may be required for those traveling on other passports (or residing in US territories such as Puerto Rico). Be sure to double-check before you RSVP, but as of December 2022 this list provides those countries where a visa may be required. In addition, we recommend researching if visas will be required for any countries you may visit before or after the wedding - but a US passport will not require a visa in most EU countries.
Currently, France does not currently require vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test result to enter the country. As public health guidance evolves and out of an abundance of caution & respect for our loved ones, we ask that guests please test for COVID-19 using a rapid antigen test prior to entering France.
We don’t recommend traveling the day of the wedding or the day of the welcome dinner in case flights are canceled or delayed (and this can often happen – just last time Cory was in France, his return flight was cancelled, and he had to stay an extra night in Paris). We recommend leaving on Thursday night or at the latest on Friday evening June 30th on an overnight flight.
Since guests will be arriving and departing from Paris at different times, we will not be able to provide transportation to and from the airport. As a result, we recommend you have a plan for how you will get to your hotel when you arrive. All airports have wifi, so you should be able to use apps like Uber, Bolt, and G7 when you arrive. Please refer to the 'Transportation' tab for more information and details.
Europe has extremely safe & cost-efficient public transport via train to all other European neighbors (incl. the UK & Italy). We will provide transit options to & from wedding activities.
Having cell service internationally is a preference, not a necessity, but we encourage you to look at the options available to you in case you are staying in Europe for an extended period of time. Some phone carriers have great international usage options, but not all do. If you don't have an affordable international plan, we recommend you purchase Orange's holiday SIM card which you can use in over 30 countries in Europe and is very affordable. For those who have not traveled to Europe before, Orange is like the AT&T of France/Europe. You can purchase this SIM card at an airport kiosk (recommended - we suggest you do some research before your flight to figure out which gate you'll arrive at and where the SIM cards are) or any Orange store.
Many of our friends & family will be traveling from all over the United States, Colombia, and France to attend our special day. If you’re nervous about navigating travel to Europe for the first time, and would prefer to travel with someone with experience, let us know and we’ll share information of other guests who may be able to help. And if you have any specific travel questions or concerns, please text or email Noelia (267-772-7321) or Cory (724-709-4957).
