Where should I stay?
Have a look at the travel section on our website for a link to accommodation options via short term rentals in the East Neuk of Fife. You can also use Booking.com, Airbnb.com, or VRBO.com to search for options. Staying in Crail will be the closest option to the venue.
What is the dress code?
Black Tie Optional:
For Men:
This can include a black or dark tuxedo, formal dress shirt, and a black bow tie or formal tie. However, you are in Scotland, and wearing a kilt is highly recommended! This is usually paired with the Prince Charlie Jacket and 3 button vest. Please see next question for details of where to hire a kilt.
A dark suit (black, charcoal, or navy) with a white dress shirt and a conservative tie is also perfectly acceptable. Dress shoes (like oxfords) are recommended to keep the look polished. An alternative to a kilt that is also acceptable are formal Tartan Trousers.
For Women:
Formal Evening Wear: This could be a floor-length gown, a dressy cocktail dress, or even an elegant pantsuit.
Color and Style: You can choose darker colors or bold patterns if you'd like, but the look should still lean more toward elegant than casual. Fascinators of all sizes are welcome and make a great statement.
*Key Takeaway*
While a tuxedo and formal gown are welcome, they’re not required. Kilt's are highly encouraged.
Aim for a sophisticated and polished look, fitting for a formal wedding without the full black-tie requirement.
Where can I hire a Kilt?
Kirk Wynd Highland House is a kilt maker in St. Andrews who can provide you with a full outfit in one hour and is conveniently located 20mins from Crail.
No appointment is necessary as they have over 700 kilts in stock.
They do prefer that you go into the shop for your measurements as it is very easy to get wrong.
Our suggestion is to go in for measurements then take some time to walk around St. Andrews and take in the sights. Your kilt will be ready for pick up that same day (and as soon as 1 hour).
The standard 4 day hire costs £99.50 for the whole outfit, you are only required to provide your own white dress shirt.

Which tartan should I wear?
If you are hiring a kilt, you will have many choices for a tartan. Tartan is a piece of woven cloth made up of horizontal and vertical stripes in different colors, on a colored background. Today, specific combinations of colors & patterns are associated with Scottish Highland Clans.
For most people, a key factor when choosing their tartan is having a connection with the tartan they wear. One of the most obvious ways to find that connection is by doing a bit of research to discover if you belong to a Scottish clan.
It’s also perfectly acceptable to pick a tartan simply because you like the colors and the pattern. There are no specific rules governing which tartan you can wear for the wedding. If you don't have a preference, feel free to choose one of the Fraser tartans!
Are children allowed at the wedding?
We are so excited to celebrate with all of you and create a wonderful weekend of memories! While our wedding day ceremony and reception will be an adults-only event, we warmly welcome children at our other gatherings throughout the weekend.
To assist parents attending the wedding day, we are booked in with a nanny service team who will provide childcare for us as Sypsie's Farmhouse (which is next door to the wedding venue). If you’re planning to bring your children along for the weekend, please let us know their ages so we can add them to the booking.
Thank you for your understanding and support, and we look forward to celebrating together!
Will transportation be provided?
There will not be a formal transportation service available as all our guests will likely stay in guesthouses dotted throughout multiple villages. We recommend using a taxi service or Uber to get to and from the venue as the entire ceremony and reception will take place at the same location.
Is there parking at the venue?
Yes, ample parking is available on site at the Cow Shed.
Will the ceremony be indoors or outdoors?
We are aiming for an outdoor ceremony. Cloudy and overcast skies are common, as well as light rain. In May, the average temperature range in Fife, Scotland is 13°C (55°F) highs and 7°C (45°F) lows. However, you can expect some warmer days in the low to mid 20s°C (68°F). May is a transitional month between spring and summer, so the weather is mild and changing.
What can I expect at the welcome reception?
Our welcome reception on May 16th, 2025 will provide food and drinks in a relaxed setting to mingle and celebrate together. We will gather outside on the ground's of Sypsie's Farmhouse, which is located next to the wedding venue on the farm. If temps are too cool or it is raining, we will move the party indoors.
