Yes. If guests are looking for something to do away from the city center and close to the venue, there is plenty to do in South Liverpool.
The church is walking distance from John Lennon's childhood home, Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. Allerton Road is also a ten minute walk and offers a number of bars and restaurants, many of which are open for breakfast. Calderstones Park is less than ten minutes away and will provide a relaxing walk and contains quaint Japanese Gardens and also homes the Allerton Oak Tree which is over 1,000 years old.
Next to the Sefton Park Palm House is Lark Lane which has tons of restaurants and bars and has a good buzz from the morning until midnight. Sefton Park itself has safe and relaxing walking paths with a man-made lake and is across the road from Lark Lane.
Also local are Speke Hall (a Tudor stately home now preserved by the National Trust) and Woolton Village (an old village located in South Liverpool behind John Lennon's home with numerous Victorian sites, Eleanor Rigby's grave, and bars and restaurants).
How long should I plan to stay in Liverpool?
Liverpool, in our opinion, has enough to keep you busy for at least three days. For a small city, there is a lot to do and great evening life. People from Liverpool are incredibly proud of how it has the local feeling of a village but the attractions of a major city. However, given that many guests will be traveling from abroad and will likely want to see different parts of the UK and Ireland, we recommend planning days in Liverpool in detail (as one would in any major city) as there is plenty to see and therefore plenty to miss.
When should I book flights?
Prior to answering, we want to thank everyone who is planning on coming. We recognize how far it is and how expensive (particularly international) travel can be. It really means the world to us (no pun intended) that so many are planning on travelling to Liverpool. Now to the answer. For those travelling from outside the UK, please see our "Travel and Stay" tab which gives a list of recommended routes to Liverpool. Throughout the year, the flights fluctuate but there are always good deals to be had at different points in time. We recommend using apps like Hopper and Skyscanner which provide notifications for cheap flights. However, please feel free to reach out to Richard or Nora if you would like to see if you are getting a good deal. We have deliberately picked a May date as we think it strikes a perfect compromise between the weather and off-peak flights. We also have first hand experience of getting good deals for flights to and from the UK in May, but flights will fluctuate throughout the year.
Do I need to rent a car?
For Liverpool alone, probably not and for travelling around the UK there are great rail options. The majority of sites in Liverpool are either in the city center or South Liverpool which has a number of bus routes. Public transportation is generally good. Liverpool also has Uber and a number of taxi companies. Worst case scenario, you can always jump in a Hackney (black) cab like you see in all of the English films. However, we do recommend carrying some cash if you are planning on using black cabs.
