What should I bring to travel to Mexico?

Hey! Great question! You will need a valid passport to enter Mexico. As of now there are no COVID-related requirements to travel between the US and Mexico. We will update you if anything changes.

Do I need to know Spanish in Oaxaca?

Wow, another good question. Keep them coming. Our experience is that English is limited in Oaxaca. If you head to the "Travel" tab you will find some commonly used sentences that we found helpful. But, don't worry! You will be just fine! Everyone there is very helpful and kind. They want to communicate with you. Also, Google Translate FTW.

What's up with the water?

Oaxaca has a primitive water system that relies on water trucks for distribution. This means that Oaxacan people do not drink their tap water. This also means that restaurants and bars rely on a separate, filtered source for their water and ice. If this freaks you out, you can ask for bottles of water. You will want to brush your teeth with bottled water!

Will it be fun?

Oaxaca is the mezcal capital of the world... so... make your own assumptions.

Am I going to eat bugs?

Yes. 🐌 🦋 🐛 🐜 🐝 🐞

What is Oaxaca known for?

Another fantastic question. As well as being the mezcal capital of the world, Oaxaca is known as the gastronomical capital of Mexico. Oaxaca is known for its distinct and cultural flavors, which are unique to the region. Mole, memelas, tlayudas and empanadas with regional flavors (& bugs!) can be found on every corner. Oaxaca is also known for its rich diversity of artisans. Traditional art forms date back to the native Zapotec people, and many historical practices are still used today. TLDR; Oaxaca is fun AF and is full of good food and amazing handmade arts.

What is the weather like in Oaxaca?

Oaxaca is a mountain town, so it is typically warm and sunny during the day (70-80° F), and then it cools off a bit at night (50-60° F). Bring a couple light jackets or long pants for the night, but be prepared for hot and sunny during the day. Sunscreen is still very important every day. Rain sprinkles in occasionally over the mountains, but it is rarely intense or long enough to need rain gear. When looking at the forecast use "Oaxaca de Juárez" as the location. 🌞
