Q + A

Do I need a visa traveling to Norway from the USA?

As of mid-2025, you will need to apply for an ETIAS. The website can be found here --> https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en It is a quick form that takes about 5-10 minutes. You should receive an answer within 10-15 minutes, but it is recommended that you complete the form well in advance of travelling.

What is the best option for phone plans while in Norway?

We recommend checking with your cell phone carrier first about their international plans. Otherwise, you can buy temporary SIM cards for your phone while in Norway. MyCall is a good option and can be found at Narvesen and 7/11 Stores.

I don't speak Norwegian. What is the best way to understand signs, text, etc?

99% of Norwegian text will be offered in English and all announcements in Norwegian will be repeated in English. Therefore, there is no need to worry about not having information in English. We do recommend downloading the Google Translate App for your phone in the event you would like to translate items in the grocery store, etc. In the app, there is a camera function that lets you hover over any Norwegian text and it will translate it all to English. When in doubt, almost all Norwegians speak super good English!

Do I need cash in Norway?

NO! Norway is a mostly cashless society, so a Mastercard or Visa card will work almost everywhere. More places will reject cash than not have a card option. Do let your banks know though that you'll be using your card abroad.
