They met the old-fashioned way- on Hinge. Olivia was living in Stockton commuting to her job as a nurse in Concord, and Caitlyn was teaching high school biology in San Jose. Things were looking dire for Caitlyn until a profile popped up with a note from the app, "Our algorithm thinks you two are most compatible and should meet." Olivia reached out first, and after a few weeks of texting, Caitlyn agreed to a first date. She knew she could trust an algorithm. Olivia had planned a hike and picnic at Sunol Regional Wilderness, but 2021 had other ideas. When a pandemic closes the restaurants, concerts, and just about everything else, suddenly everyone has a desire for the outdoors. The trailhead parking lot was full, so after being waived away by a park ranger, Caitlyn and Olivia turned around and headed back to a nearby park. They sat in the middle of a softball field (cause, where else) and got to know each other for eight hours. No hike, they didn’t even eat the food Olivia packed for the picnic, just two people who couldn’t stop talking and smiling at one another. The date went so long that both of their best friends had to text them to make sure they hadn’t been abducted. Guess these are the tightropes people walk in the age of online dating. From then on, Olivia and Caitlyn spent pretty much every free moment together. They connected over a love of food, wine, sports, music and obscure Saturday Night Live sketches. Things moved fast, but felt easy. They realized they shared the same values—family, education, showing up for each other—and it just clicked. Eventually, Caitlyn moved to Portland to start medical school at OHSU. After a year of long distance, Olivia joined her and started working at OHSU as an ER nurse- "and they were roommates." Years passed and numerous memories reminded them of what they had suspected on January 17th, 2021- that they had found their person. On June 8th, 2024, Olivia proposed at Cape Meares on the Oregon Coast. Caitlyn said yes, obviously. And here we are ❤️

Important Notes

We will not be having a group room block as we want to give folks flexibility to book lodging where they prefer. We would, however, recommend avoiding booking stays in the following areas:- Downtown- Lloyd District

Transportation

Ride share (Uber, Lyft) is used quite frequently and is reasonably priced most of the time. There are also eBikes and eScooters that you can rent if you are looking for a more fun way of getting around town! There is also public transit (buses, street cars, and MAX trains), which are cheap options but not the most efficient/timely. Renting a car is always an option as well. However, just know that there is little to no free parking in Portland unless you're in a residential area!
