Back in 2019, Olivia found herself going to her junior year homecoming without a date. Her mom, Elizabeth, suggested she find someone as a friend to go with, but Olivia struggled to think of anyone she could ask to go to the dance with her. So Elizabeth took it upon herself and asked her nephew Ethan if he thought one of his best friends, Derick Dealey, would want to go to homecoming with Olivia. Before even thinking about the question, Ethan quickly texted his friend Derick and asked if he would go to the homecoming dance with his cousin Olivia. After a very short discussion, Ethan then relayed the message to his Aunt Elizabeth that Derick said he "would think about it.". Mortified, Olivia heard what happened and immediately texted Derick and told him she had no idea that her mom or cousin were taking action on this little plan. Feeling bad for her Derick said he would go with Olivia to her school dance so she didn't go all alone.

Homecoming day arrived and both Olivia and Derick were very nervous. The day was going well, they luckily had friends who went with them which made the evening less awkward. During the dance, the last slow song started to play, it happened to be the song, "10,000 Hours" by Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay. Derick sang every word of the song while dancing with Olivia and then after the song ended he looked at her and said, "I honestly don't think I have ever heard that song before." After Olivia cracked up for several minutes she realized he might not be that bad of a guy after all and the rest has been history since.
