Our Wedding

How We Met Olivia and Matthew met in their late teenage years at a private pool where they worked as lifeguards. Their conversations seemed to carry on with little effort, however the romantic spark did not come to life until a few years after working together and becoming friends. Most of the other lifeguards at the pool could see the signs for “more than friends” behavior such as secret handholding, Matthew’s joy to help Olivia with the smallest of gestures, and their back and forth flirting during their work breaks.&nbsp; Both Matthew and Olivia had little experience in the dating world, both knew they liked each other, but they were both nervous about how to take it to the next step! After several non-official dates and a little time apart from each other after the pool had closed for the fall/winter, Matthew and Olivia decided to skip the dating and move into a slow-paced low-key relationship (They would only see each other once per week ha ha). The Proposal Story After moving to London ON in 2017, Olivia and Matthew had been able to live together and be independent adults for the first time in their lives. It was as exciting as it was nerve wracking for Matthew to start his career as a Kinesiologist and for Olivia to begin her doctorate in School and Applied Child Psychology while adapting to their new but cozy environment.&nbsp; In the Fall of 2019, they planned a trip to the beautiful Bruce Peninsula to see the Grotto and hike on Flowerpot Island. Olivia and Matt had a nice breakfast at the B &amp; B they were staying at and then went off for their scheduled boat tour which would stop on flowerpot island for a few hours. Matthew knew this would be the island he would propose on but had no clue whereabouts to do it. Throughout the entire hike, Matt was observing the scene while trying to be himself and determine where would be a nice spot to pop the question. The procrastination paid off when Matt proposed to Olivia near the end of the hike, when they go to a lighthouse overlooking the water with no one else beside them. After Matt popped the question and Olivia said Yes, a nice couple walked onto the deck of the lighthouse.&nbsp; The couple took the first pictures of Olivia and Matt as an engaged couple and were relieved when Matt told them Olivia’s tears were tears of joy. The couple expressed they were celebrating their 30th&nbsp;wedding anniversary on this trip! Just a few minutes later, while Olivia and Matt walked towards the flowerpots and made a short video of the proposal story to Matt’s parents, another couple overheard Matt and told them they were also celebrating their anniversary (25th)! They recreated the proposal pictures in front of one of the flowerpots near the water. The wife explained that every year they take a trip for their anniversary and find a heart shaped rock and decided to give theirs to us that year.&nbsp; After that, Olivia and Matt continued their hike, while Olivia asked Matt a million questions. When they were waiting for the boat to return, they saw both the couples that took their photos talking about their experience with a young couple who got engaged and so they were able to get a photo all together for a beautiful souvenir of lasting love and kindness!&nbsp; Memorable moments of sacrifice and love Matthew: I knew Olivia loved me for all that I was when I experienced the most difficult and low point in my life during my short but intense experience with Ulcerative colitis. Olivia would come to visit me everyday at the hospital and support me with whatever challenges came about that day. After my surgery and now living with an ileostomy, I only felt her love for me grow and I fell even more in love with her. I will never forget her sacrifices and ongoing help through those times and the other more difficult times in my life.&nbsp; Olivia: When I first received my acceptance to Western University, I was so scared to go start this new chapter, but I knew this was what I wanted to do. After a bit of uncertainty from Matt to come along, he decided to join after a visit to the campus and Farm boy (Kidding! Although he really likes locally made food). Matt exceeded all expectations when he moved with me. He helped me feel more comfortable in London and helped keep me motivated throughout my studies. Matt continued to show me love daily as he helped me with cooking, cleaning, practicing tests and preparing for course work and my dissertation defense.&nbsp; After almost 11 years together, we are looking forward to the next chapters of our lives together!&nbsp;
