On my own for the first time as a freshman in college, I was just trying to soak everything in. I had been warned about this supposed dearth of fun, intelligent females at Georgia Tech and had set out to see if it was true. My fraternity had sent me and my other pledge brothers to meet new girls at a swing dancing mixer and invite them over to an infamous Wine Wednesday party. After meeting a few people, one girl makes the comment "Man Olivia just looks so cute" and so my response to that was "Can you introduce me? " as I was trying to meet cute girls. And this girl was not wrong, Olivia was beautiful. We started dancing, listening to Sangria Wine, and going to events with each other.
At first I was cautious to ask Olivia to be my girlfriend, as older friends and family had warned me about the freshman fall relationships. We got to know each other better on a personal level taking things slow and by February I couldn't hold off any longer finally asking her to be my girlfriend after meeting my family for the first time while in New Orleans (side note: she was so nervous talking to my mom she spilled a bowl of gumbo all over her outfit and had to go change. She still looked great though)
Throughout college our relationship matured, and we improved on some of our weaknesses but also our strengths, namely communication. I've truly never felt like I can express myself to anyone else as clearly and free of judgement as I have when speaking to Olivia. When the two of us are together, I don't think there is anything that we cannot accomplish.
After 6 years (long years for Olivia) I finally had saved some money and put all the plans in place to propose where it all started on Peter's Parking Deck. Once I had the ring I had to start faking proposals (Saints games, fast food drive thru etc) because I knew I could not hold it all in sly and I wanted to make sure she was surprised when it actually happened.
I am so excited for everyone to celebrate with us and cannot wait for March 15th.
It all started on the very first Wednesday of college, atop Peter's Parking Deck, where we were paired together to learn how to swing dance—a passion that still brings us joy today. Later that evening, Andre invited me to the classy Wine Wednesday event at his fraternity, where we instantly clicked on the black and white tile floors dancing to the band. In fact, our good friend's older sister stated "y'all are going to get married some day" which thankfully is coming true.
Our friendship continued to blossom throughout the remainder of the fall semester where Andre and I got to know each other through date nights and other events on campus. Our first official date was a memorable brunch at 10th and Piedmont, where we talked for hours. It was clear that we had something special, and on February 17, 2018, Andre officially asked me to be his girlfriend.
Over the years, Andre and I have become each other's best friends. We love running together, exploring new places, and sharing countless adventures. On January 26, 2024, Andre took me back to the place where it all began—Peter's Parking Deck—and asked me to marry him. It was a moment filled with love and excitement as we looked forward to building our future together.
We are so excited to officially tie the knot on March 15, 2025!
