Our Story

Luke's side of the story,

We first met at Battle Creek Bible church in mid-January when we began attending the church. After the service, our families got to talking and the Furmato family invited us over for lunch. Me and Olivia started talking about piano, but we did not talk much at all that Sunday, I think i was just watching her for the next couple of weeks. On January 31st however I finally built up the courage to talk to her dad for permission to court her and later, at her house, she got my phone number. There was a problem though, I forgot to ask her for her number for some reason. At first, I did not think anything of it, I figured that when she texted me then I would have her number, but I got no texts from her all week, so I was a bit discouraged. When I went to church the following week on February 7th, she asked me if I wanted to learn how to operate the soundboard which I agreed to; so there we sat back, in the sound booth when she asked me why I had not responded to her texts! I of course was confused when she showed me the messages that she had sent me from her phone and my first though was "Oh crap, I gave this girl the wrong number, and she's been texting some random person!" To show me that the texts were not going through she sent me another message but this time it went through immediately! After that we talked for hours, I picked her up after church that Sunday with a couple of her siblings to practice piano at the church, but we just ended up talking for hours and hours. On Wednesday, the 10th we went on our first date at Clara's in Battle Creek and on Friday the 12th, after having a lengthy talk with her parents I proposed to her in the living room at around 9 at night.

Olivia's side of the story: On January 17th I was closing up the church soundboard after the sermon, then walked over to where Mom and Dad were talking to a new family. I decided to just sit and listen to their conversation, and I heard that one of their kids played piano, so I piped up and asked who played, and it so happened to be Luke. That day the Drallettes came over for pasta, not much happened that day we all ate and talked around the table. Two weeks later I got baptized and we had a big party, my family came, some friends, people from church, including the Drallettes. In the middle of the party and I was shoving my mouth with sloppy joe, and Luke walks up to me and says he'd like to talk to me, but there was never a chance to talk with all the people around, so I suggested that we exchange numbers, at that time he had his moms phone with a pink case so he decided not to whip out a pink phone to get a girls number. After he gave me his phone number I forgot to make sure it worked. A couple of days later I texted him but got no reply, I texted him three times trying to see if it was the right number or if he was getting them but still nothing. I figured that he had seen how crazy I was and decided not to have that talk after all. The next Sunday, I started to set up the soundboard and he was helping me, so I asked why he never texted back, and he said he never got anything, I sent him another text and it went through without a problem. Three days later he took me out to Claras on the river and we eat and talked forever, talking to him was easy and fun, and it just flowed.

Then he asked if I wanted to meet his grandparents, and that's what we did. On Friday 12th he came over in the morning and hung out but he had said that he was going to talk to my parents that day so all day we were a nervous wreck, having to shove food down even though we weren't hungry. That night Luke, Mom, and Dad talked for about two and a half hours. When he came out, I had my headphones on and was cleaning up, and he said he'd be right back and went to his car. Mom and Dad were in the kitchen talking, and the kids were in the basement watching a movie so it was quiet. He came in and we sat down and he told me to close my eyes, then he told me to open them and he was down on his knee with a ring, and I said yes! obviously.
