I (Dylan) learned to solve a Rubik's cube at Sky Ranch Camp in the summer of 2022. I practiced solving it in my free time until I got pretty decent. I used it as a quick and easy way to entertain campers, but they weren't the only ones interested...
I (Olivia) served and worked many years at Sky Ranch camps. I grew to love and hold the sweet ministry close to my heart. When I committed again to work the summer of 2022, I did not know that I'd soon grow in love and hold something else so close to my heart.
"Lord open or close this door if it is your will" is the prayer I prayed that same Summer about this girl I just couldn't seem to take my eyes off. I hadn't yet talked to her, but there was something about her that was mesmerizing to me. Her smile, her laugh, I just couldn't look away. I remember how focused she was in her ministry and serving the Lord. I remember seeing her passion for what she does and her selfless heart that cares for others. I remember seeing how she loved those around her and how everyone else loved her too. The Lord was planning something bigger than I could hope for or imagine.
One thing about working at a Christian camp is you are constantly surrounded by Godly men who are great with children. As one can imagine, many interests are being taken in others among college-aged counselors. I tried my hardest to focus on the Lord and the ministry I was a part of and surrender everything I had to God. However, I was trying to manage and control my relationships and eventually gave up. "Father I surrender my relationships to you" is the prayer I had prayed just one day before I met a long, blonde-haired hippy boy at camp.
Let me explain horses. Horses is an activity at Sky Ranch that the campers go to, while the counselors sit in a room with each other for around an hour. My third and last week at camp, I went to horses on Monday. This girl who I had been praying about happened to be there too (Score!). I was solving my Rubik's cube and this girl was amazed. We officially met and I learned her name (Olivia in case you aren't following).
I LOVED going to horses because there were two cats. A very friendly one, and a grumpy one. It was just another Monday at horses when the grumpy cat, who I had been trying to befriend all summer, jumped up next to the boy counselor who was solving a Rubik's cube really fast. Three things intrigued me about him.
1) How in the world did he get that cat to let him pet it.
2) How in the world is he solving the Rubiks cube that fast.
3) Why haven't I ever seen or met him before today.
Over that week, we talked, smiled, and made lots of eye contact. I was already so into her, but she still had no idea. That week, she hosted a party to hang out at her house. I made sure I was there. At the party, I had to show off a bit to let her know how awesome I was, so I got tasered in front of everyone and didn't flinch. From that point on, she was pretty much in love.
Over that week, We chatted more and more and I would notice glances back and forth. However, I was in the middle of my summer as a counselor and I had just surrendered my relationships to God so I continued my job without much thought. That same week I was hosting a party for some counselors and the boy, Dylan, that I had just met (Whose name I had to be reminded of more than I'd like to admit) informed me that this was his last week working at camp. I felt sad because I had enjoyed talking to him over the week but I surrendered my relationships to God so what can you do right? After the party was over, My mom mentioned there was a long, blonde-haired hippy boy who seemed to be looking at me throughout the night.
(Together) We continued to talk as Olivia finished camp and Dylan started school. It wasn't long before we made our relationship official. Within a few months of dating, we both knew God had led us right to the person we were supposed to spend the rest of our lives with. And to think ... It all started at horses.
