There are two main airports on the island of Crete. We would recommend flying into HERAKLION (HER), not Chania.

There are various AirBNBs on the eastern side of the island near Agios Nikolaos. There are many low cost hotel options around $50-70 a night in this area that keeps you within 15 minutes of the events.

Crete is very inexpensive for food!
