Our Story

It was fall of 2017. Andrew had just graduated from Saint Michael's College, and was living with his best man, Tom, in Burlington. The fall meant the end of sailing season, but colder temperatures would usher ski season in soon enough. Olivia, meanwhile, had returned to SMC for her senior year, fresh from a semester abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Olivia will tell you she was not that annoying kid who only talked about her semester abroad, but the decorations in her townhouse told otherwise.

Olivia and Andrew "met at a party" (matched on a dating app) early September. Andrew's first date suggestion? To go sailing on Lake Champlain. Now, Olivia, being the practical woman she is, told Andrew "I don't want you to murder me", and suggested a movie instead, where she was in significantly less danger of being chopped up and thrown into Lake Champlain as food for the legendary lake monster, Champ.

Andrew was immediately taken by Olivia's dazzling good looks and her sense of humor (or so Olivia says), and Olivia was over the moon that she was dating a boy who didn't own anything hippie-adjacent in his wardrobe.

The two dated until the winter, and unfortunately went their separate ways. Andrew was increasingly busy with work and traveling for long stretches of time, and Olivia was occupied with finishing senior year strong, knowing she was bound for Dublin, Ireland to get her Master's Degree. When you ask the couple about these Dark Ages, Olivia will say "KPMG sucked", and Andrew will say "But the Marriot points were awesome!" Olivia begrudgingly agrees.

Their love story picked back up in the summer of 2020. Their second first date? Sailing on Andrew's new sailboat in Quincy Bay. Olivia was more or less sure she wouldn't be murdered, and there would be no lake monster to cover up the evidence if she was. The two realized that, in those years apart, they had never stopped loving one another (awwww).

In their years dating, Andrew taught Olivia to sail and to ski. She is currently warming up to the idea of golf. Her current mantra is, "one white person sport at a time". Please, don't bring up tennis or pickleball, it's a sore subject. You might ask, what has Olivia taught Andrew? The answer: the importance of sufficiently salting pasta water.

Olivia and Andrew found their love on the water, on the slopes, cooking dinners and sharing cocktails, in laughter, in sadness, in quiet moments and in loud spaces. They knew that wherever they were or whatever they were doing, they wanted and needed the other by their side.

Finally, the engagement. It was May, 2022, and after a morning iced coffee, croissants, and a walk along the beach, Andrew took Olivia to Boston Common, one of her favorite spots in the city. There is a very elaborate story involving Andrew's best man and his Jeep, Andrew's brother Peter and his girlfriend Hannah, fried dough, and about seven blister pads, but it's better to ask for the story than to read about it. Andrew got down on one knee, Olivia kept asking "What are you doing?" like she was a CD with a scratch in it, and the rest is history.

Olivia and Andrew are so excited to begin their journey as husband and wife. And they're totally stoked to party with you all, too!
