Olivia’s POV: I’d always heard that your soulmate finds you when life is going well and you feel at your best, but that isn't the case for the making of many couples. It was a tough period, as it is for many women navigating the modern dating scene and so many things were happening. I first met Yuhan in early April 2022. I still laugh when I think about his initial message—he’d misspelled my nickname, calling me “oil” instead of “Oli.” That playful mistake marked the start of our conversation. What made it even more delightful was having a friend from a completely different culture, one especially that I had a closed mind about. Although I wasn’t looking to enter another long-distance relationship, our chats grew from brief texts to lengthy paragraphs, and eventually to daily conversations and video calls. The rest, as they say, is history. On May 20, 2022, Chinese Valentine’s Day, I decided to accept Yuhan's proposal to date officially. We watched the horror movie “Saw” together and then Yuhan popped the question. Despite my fears about the distance, I was drawn to his humor, intelligence, and Chinese heritage. He opened my eyes both intellectually and romantically. We knew our relationship would face challenges, but we navigated them together, growing stronger with each passing year. We enjoyed playing games, watching movies, and sharing meals. Yuhan would surprise me with flowers, sing for me, and write heartfelt letters. In return, I would send him flowers and teddy bears for Valentine’s Day and draw pictures for him. Our conversations often revolved around our fears, dreams, values, and the world at large. When we met in person for the first time in Thailand about a year later, we were thrilled. Our relationship, built on trust, communication, and shared values, was finally becoming a reality. Counting down the days felt slow but seeing him in person was like a breath of fresh air. I felt completely at ease, as if we were finally home.&nbsp; After our first meeting, the separation felt different—a new kind of longing emerged. Seeing other couples together brought a pang of sadness. Our relationship was unique in its own way, different from those who could meet up on a whim after just one phone call. When we reunited in China in the summer of 2024, it was even more special than our time in Thailand. Yuhan greeted me at the airport with a huge bouquet of roses, and shortly after, he proposed. I was overjoyed and knew he was the one for me. I experienced his rich culture firsthand, met his family and friends, and explored the places from his childhood. Being welcomed so warmly by his family reaffirmed my certainty that he was the person I wanted to spend my life with. As we prepare for our wedding, we’re both excited to embark on this new journey together. Yuhan's POV: When I was little, I was so curious about what the world was like outside of China. I always wanted to explore the world. Right now, even though I haven’t traveled around the world, I have a partner who is from the other side of the world. I met Olivia online in April 2022 and she was very lively. I started to text her more because she seemed outgoing and acted very cute. We went through a lot together during the period when we had to talk online and were desperate to meet for the first time in winter of 2022.&nbsp;At that time, there was still the coronavirus and also quarantine, so things were difficult for us. There were many difficulties in this time. We then decided it was better to meet in summer of 2023 in Thailand. After a long time, we finally met in Thailand. I still remember I was at the airport waiting for her to get off the plane, my heart pounding so fast and my mind totally blank. I still remember the time we spent in Thailand. It was the most unforgettable time I had in my life. I would lean on her lap and think about how I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. We decided to meet in summer of 2024 in China the moment we got back home. We planned to do a lot of things in China. I really wanted to spend the rest of my life with Olivia, so I bought a diamond ring and planned to propose.&nbsp;Once she came to China, I proposed to her with a bunch of roses, and she was so happy. I felt so happy too. I took her to take pre-wedding photos, introduced her to my parents, family and friends. I introduced her to all the Chinese food even though some of them were difficult for her because she wasn’t used to it in America. We went to visit every place in my memory, including my hometown where I lived for more than 18 years. We visited my kindergarten, primary school, and high school. I showed her places I used to play as a child and Wuhan University, where I study. We did everything we wanted to do as a couple including going to amusement parks, prancing around Wuhan, and even the zoo during the harsh summer heat. She also had fun living in my home with my family for a week during this time. It confirmed to me how much I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Life was so good when we were together.Now, I went to America to study and be together with Olivia. I respect her faith and beliefs and want to give her the wedding of her dreams. Of course, even though there are difficulties obstructing between us while we are apart, it is our destiny to always overcome those.
