How We Met

We met in the most random way ever. With both of us being from different cities hundreds of miles apart it's a wonder we both managed to take the the same exact class in the same semester. For those of you who don't know, we are both members of the WKU Honors College and though our majors couldn't be more different, there is one class that is required by the Honors College regardless of major . . . Honors 251: Citizen and Self. In this class of over 200 people we just happened to be paired up for a simple and strange assignment where one person had to talk for two minutes while the other person could not talk, only listen, and then we switched. Well it just so happened, on that specific day, Olivia was very sick and somewhat short on a voice. In my mind this made it much easier to talk to the gorgeous girl that I'd noticed weeks ago in class because it put her more in my league! Anyway, we finished our assignment and as class let out we talked again for about ten minutes until she absolutely had to go to the doctor to get her "throat fixed." Later that day, James decided to message me with that exact phrase, "Did you get your throat fixed?" . . . so basically the smoothest possible pick-up line! After managing to get through that awkward and hilarious first message with only a few minor laughs, we just kept talking and the rest, as they say, is history!

The Proposal

First of all, let me explain something. I am highly perceptive and it is very hard to surprise me. With that being said, I figured out James's original plan to propose to me, much to his dismay (and with the accidental help of his sister. . .) After we had smoothed all of that over, he had me CONVINCED that it was now going to be after that original date because there was "a lot of stuff that had to be moved around," and for some strange reason, I believed him. As the week of October 15, 2015 rolled around I couldn't have been more clueless to his intentions, because he told me it wouldn't be until well after the 16th!! Since we had plans to go up to Lexington that weekend for his sister's horse show, we decided to have our date night on Thursday instead of Friday night. Despite my perceptiveness I didn't even pick up a hint that something fishy was going on . . . in fact, I sort of helped him plan it!! Well, I suggested we go up to Van Meter Hall (One of the prettiest overlooks of Bowling Green and the spot of our first date!), which was his original plan all along, and I even suggested we go at sunset - how romantic am I? As we parked and started walking towards the fountain in front of the building I still had no clue what was happening until we got right up on the fountain and I noticed some flowers and rose petals scattered around! It was absolutely gorgeous and as we got closer it finally hit me what was happening and I must say, the emotion is hard to describe. As he got down on one knee I was experiencing a combination of disbelief, happiness, and lots of excitement. The moment I had dreamed of my entire life was actually happening! I don't remember much of what he said because I was in shock... but I definitely remember saying "YES!!!"
