We met many years ago at our church, Zebulon Baptist Church, where we were in juniors together. We knew of each other, but never really spoke to one other until April of 2019.
At that time, I (Olivia) was attending Campbell University Law School and the Barristers' Ball was coming up. Through friends, we decided to attend the Barristers' Ball together. Shortly after, we began dating and haven't missed a beat since.
For my birthday in December 2022, Brock gifted me tickets to the next year's Kentucky Derby in May. Fast forward to 2023 and I was on Brock's case about when we were getting engaged. I was set on the fact that it should be at the Derby because I am a "horse girl." However, Brock continuously told me that would be "too obvious" and that he had other plans.
When it came time to go to Louisville, KY, the whole family was in on the details - except for me! The first day at the Kentucky Oaks, Brock picked the spot where he was going to propose and the details were set! I still had no idea.
The next morning, everybody played a part in making it happen. Lee (my dad) carried the ring in his pocket. Chelsea (my sister) helped keep Olivia distracted. Celeste (my mom) was in charge of FaceTiming Brock's mom and family (Roberta, Bob, Julia), and Dock helped make sure everything stayed in place.
Brock and I got in line to take a picture in front of one of the famous statues. When it was our turn, we took a picture as we normally would, then Brock got down on one knee and the rest is history!
