Whether you’re coming from nearby or traveling in for the celebration, this beautiful part of Northern California has so much to explore. From scenic coastlines and historic small towns to vineyard country drives and outdoor adventure, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy the area...
Bodega Bay — Just a short drive from the celebration venues, Bodega Bay is perfect for seaside strolls, picnic spots, tidepool exploring, and watching shorebirds and ocean views. Some of our favorite hikes in the area are Kortum Trail or Bodega Head.
Dillon Beach — A peaceful stretch of sand ideal for beach walks, sunset views, and fresh ocean air.
Point Reyes National Seashore — About 30–40 minutes from the area, this iconic park offers hiking trails, dramatic coastal overlooks, and opportunities to see tule elk and wildlife.
Kayaking & Paddleboarding — Explore Tomales Bay’s calm waters; rentals are available seasonally and great for all skill levels.
Horseback Riding — Enjoy the beauty of the coast and countryside from the saddle with guided trail rides through rolling hills and scenic landscapes. Local options include Horse N Around Trail Rides and Chanslor Ranch. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekend rides.
Tomales – Start your morning at Route One Bakery for coffee and fresh pastries, or stop by Tomales Deli & Café for a casual breakfast or lunch.
Wild Flour Bread – A beloved local destination for artisan breads, pastries, and wood-fired treats (worth the short drive).
Oysters on Tomales Bay – Enjoy fresh oysters and bay views at Hog Island Oyster Co. or The Marshall Store.
Bodega Bay Seafood – Local favorites include Spud Point Crab Company for clam chowder and crab, and Fishetarian Fish Market for fresh, casual coastal fare.
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company – Cheese tastings, picnic supplies, and a relaxing farm setting.
Farm Stands & Scenic Drives – Explore the backroads between Tomales, Valley Ford, and Bodega to find local farm stands, seasonal produce, and beautiful countryside views.
Sonoma Coast Wineries — The surrounding countryside is home to beautiful, small-production vineyards along the Sonoma Coast, perfect for a relaxed afternoon enjoying scenic views and cool-climate wines. Notable stops include Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery and Flowers Vineyards & Winery.
Heidrun Meadery — A unique local experience featuring sparkling meads made from single-source honeys in a beautiful farm setting.
HenHouse Brewing Company — A laid-back spot for craft beer and a relaxed afternoon with friends.
Local tasting rooms and wine bars throughout Bodega Bay and nearby towns offer casual places to unwind and enjoy the flavors of the region.
Pickleball & Tennis — Public courts are available in nearby Petaluma and local parks, perfect for a relaxed game with friends or family.
Golf — Enjoy a round with beautiful coastal views at The Links at Bodega Harbour.
Picnics & Lawn Games — Pack a lunch and enjoy a slow afternoon at one of the many scenic overlooks, parks, or beach areas throughout the region.
Dress in Layers — Coastal weather in Nor-Cal can change throughout the day. Even in June, mornings and evenings near the water may be cool and foggy, while afternoons can be warm and sunny.
Allow Extra Travel Time — The scenic roads between Saint Teresa of Avila Church, Stemple Creek Ranch, and surrounding towns are beautiful but winding and slower than highway driving.
Limited Cell Service — Some areas have spotty reception. We recommend downloading maps or directions ahead of time.
Plan Transportation Ahead — Rideshare services are limited in this area, so driving or arranging transportation in advance is the most reliable option.
Make Reservations Early — Restaurants, tastings, and popular activities can fill up quickly, especially on weekends.
Enjoy the Pace — West Marin is all about slowing down, taking in the scenery, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the coast and countryside. Take your time along Highway 1 and the backroads, where rolling ranchlands meet the ocean.
