The first time we meet was in the Summer of 2011. It was a warm summer night and my aunt and uncle were out of town, so my cousins decided to have some friends over. I was heading into my freshman year of college and my cousins and future husband were heading into their senior year of high school. I walked over to my cousins' house not knowing it would be the night I yelled at my future husband.
Alec is friends with my twin cousins, Tony and Sophie, and met us up at their house with a few of the guys. The girls were mostly congregating in the kitchen while Tony and his friends were in the garage. At one point we heard a loud noise from the garage and all of the girls rushed out to see what was happening. The boys had been messing around and caused a huge mess in the garage with my aunt's brand new car.
Being the rule follower I am, I yelled at who I thought was the culprit and was on my way back in the house. Never did I think 10 years later that man would become my husband. I never gave that night a second thought until almost 4 years later when my now fiance reminded me of it on the day I remember as our first time meeting.
In April of 2015, I was heading back from the last softball game I'd ever play when my teammate said "I think he's going to bring his friend Alec with when he comes next weekend too". She was talking about her boyfriend at the time and added "Lia, you know him he went to high school with us." I asked her to show me a picture and I definitely did not remember him but was excited to meet him for the first time.
The weekend came and we all got together to go out on Friday night. We headed over to the junior's house and it was there that I remember meeting Alec for the first time. He remembered me but was confused as to why I was in college because he thought I was "Tony's older cousin". We spent the whole weekend together hanging out with our friends and getting to know each other and when I came home from undergrad a week later he was there helping me unpack my car at 9:00 at night. From that day forward I can't remember a day without him. He has his version and I have mine, but at the end of the day, I'm just grateful our worlds collided.
