All About Us
FIRST DATE
When & Where: Apple Greens Golf Course in New Paltz, NY - April 10th, 2017
Her View: I got invited to meet Matt with his friends, so I basically had a first date with Jay and Katie as well. Not gonna lie, I played some horrible golf so I was relieved when Matt handed me a vodka lemonade he had brought from home. Eventually, we started playing better and teamed up on the last hole to win a round of drinks.
His View: I was nervous because Paige had played golf in college and especially after I saw her golf outfit, but I quickly realized she was as nervous as me when she hit the golfball into the cart on the first hole. I had just shaved my beard and did not feel like myself, the vodka lemonade helped. We put our game faces on though and muscled out the win against Jay and Katie.
HOW I KNEW
Her View: Matt & I spent a lot of time together in between when I graduated my Masters & was waiting to hear about medical school before coming home for the summer. We just fit together and we started joking about getting married probably after just a month!
His View: We spent 8 entire days in a row together and I realized that someone could actually stand me 24 hours for a full week.
THE PROPOSAL
Who popped the question? Matt
When: 12/7/2019
Where: Adam's Farm in West Dover, VT
How did it happen?
Her View: Matt took me to look at rings in August, so I was really wondering when things were gonna happen here. We went up to VT to spend the weekend as we have done for most weekends in the winter and to get everything ready for the season. We were both exhausted on Friday from the long week, but made the drive up and went to bed. The next morning Matt had me shoveling the driveway, we dug some people out of a ditch, we got the snowmobiles off the trailer and hand washed them. Finally, after the work was complete I suggested going to our favorite $1 Raw Bar in town so we showered up and got ready. It seemed like a very ordinary day. Matt wanted to stop and get drone shots of the mountain so I said fine. He wanted me to walk up this hill and I was trying to tell him that the drone could just fly up there and we don't have to walk all the way up. He got the drone up in the air and flew it a ways away and had it hovering. He then started saying a bunch of nice things and then threw the controller with his phone into the snow. He then was hugging me and I felt him reach into his pocket and then he kept talking before he got down on one knee and showed me the most beautiful ring ever! We went to the restaurant and even the bitchiest waitress gave us free champagne and we went a few more places and had a great night!
His View: I originally planned for a Fall engagement, however there was a few set-backs trying to get the perfect ring ready followed by us both catching colds. By the time it was ready, the leaves were all off the trees and it was ugly outside so I knew I had to wait for snow. We decided to go up to VT to get everything ready for winter, we debated not going because we were both tired from the week, but ultimately we decided to go. I was very nervous about this being a surprise because I've never been able to surprise Paige because of her detective skills. I had to hide the ring in the bottom of my winter clothes bin and I did not have a plan other than to use the drone Paige had gotten me for Xmas 2 years ago. On Saturday morning, I immediately put Paige to work getting the snowmobiles ready and shoveling the driveway. All morning I was thinking about where to go to do it and thought about the hill at Adam's farm. Paige suggested getting shrimp & oysters at a place we always go there and that location was right on the way. We had a martini at the house (key to calming my nervousness) and I suggested stopping to get a drone shot of the mountain at Adams. I tried to get Paige to walk all the way up the hill, but she thought we could just fly the drone from where we were and I thought she was onto me. I got the drone flying and made sure we were in the view, pressed record, threw the controller down, and got to business. I told her I was sick and tired of waiting for the perfect moment and how much I loved her, reached in my pocket and presented the biggest diamond she had ever seen in her entire life. She said yes and I could tell she was excited because she jumped up and down. The sun was shining and it felt surreal. I had actually surprised her and she said I did good so I was proud of myself.
