Q + A

ARE CHILDREN ABLE TO ATTEND THE WEDDING DAY EVENTS?

We would love to celebrate with your children the week of the wedding, however due to space restraints for the venue, we are limiting the wedding day events to ADULTS ONLY. If you are interested in getting babysitters, please let us know and we can help arrange.

HOW DO I PLAN MY ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE TIMES?

Please note the ferry schedule (see the "Getting to BHI... By Ferry" section within the Travel tab) when making your flight reservations. For example, don't book a flight that gets to Wilmington after 10pm because you won't make the last ferry to BHI which is 11pm. Also, don't book an early morning departure flight on Sunday because the earliest you'll be able to get to Wilmington airport is about 9am. We recommend booking afternoon arrival flights and mid-day to afternoon departure flights. Also keep in mind, most homes on Bald Head Island have a 3pm check in and 10am check out. The Sunday morning tram pick-ups fill up very quickly so schedule your trams and ferry reservations as soon as you've secured housing.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TAKE THE FERRY TO BHI?

Parking at Deep Point Marina is $12 per day. The Ferry ride to Bald head island is $23 (round trip) for guests 13 and over, $12 for guests 12 and under and free for children 2 and under. It is strongly encouraged that you reserve your spot on the ferry you plan to take to the island as soon as you have your housing secured. You will also need to reserve a tram ride from the marina at Bald Head Island to your housing for the weekend.

WHAT IS THE BAGGAGE LIMITATION FOR THE FERRY?

It would be wise to adhere to 3 pieces of luggage per person including your grocery bins. This excludes all personal items or bags you are able to hand carry onto the ferry. Please refer to the website below for more information regarding packing for your trip: https://www.baldheadislandferry.com/luggage/

HOW DO I GET MY BELONGINGS ON THE FERRY?

Once you get to the ferry terminal, you can pull up to a drop off zone in order to unload your car. All bags should be tagged and placed in the loading area 40 minutes prior to your scheduled ferry time slot. We recommend having all your plastic bins labeled with duck tape listing your rental address. All belongings that you DON'T want to hand carry, should be in suitcases, large plastic bins, or secured in a container that is safe for rough handling. PRO TIP: hand carry any/all fragile personal items you can (backpacks, grocery bags, soft coolers), so that the big stuff can be handled by the ferry workers

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I ARRIVE ON THE ISLAND?

After deboarding the ferry with your hand-carried items, there will be an attendant at the stand on the way out, ask them which tram you are on. They will ask your name & rental address. You will wait for the carts to be unloaded in the parking lot. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTING ALL YOUR BELONGINGS FROM THE CARTS TO THE CORRECT TRAM BEFORE DEPARTING TO YOUR RENTAL. A tram will take you to your rental location along with your belongings, they will take multiple parties (if possible) so expect there to be multiple stops.

ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS FOR HOUSING?

Some of the agencies on the island offer discounts for wedding groups. So when booking your housing, mention you're coming to the island for a wedding!

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT THE GOLF CARTS?

Most importantly to address: an open container & DUI on the island, is equivalent to an open container & DUI on the mainland. Fully charged golf carts have about 90 mins of run time. So be sure to charge your cart when you're not using it. Also note, finding your golf cart can be difficult if you don't remember where you parked or what it looks like. And most golf cart keys will fit in almost any golf cart. So make sure you're retrieving your golf cart and not someone else's throughout your time on the island.

CAN I PURCHASE GROCERIES & ALCOHOL ON THE ISLAND?

Yes! There is a grocery store on the island called the Maritime Market. It is open 7 Days a week, hours vary. It is a full grocery with beer & wine, but no liquor. Liquor will need to be purchased on the mainland and brought over if you so desire. Maritime Market grocery store is expensive and we would recommend that you purchase as many groceries as possible in Southport and bring them on the ferry. If you plan to bring groceries to the island via the ferry, please pack them in large tupperware bins with secure lids and be sure to label them with your name, contact info, house you're staying at. These will be loaded onto the dollies along with your luggage and then transported onto the ferry so securely taping the lids closed is a good idea as well.

GROCERY TIPS

We recommend saving money on groceries by going to the nearby Walmart or Lowe's (grocery) in Southport, and loading up your coolers & plastic bins for your stay (frozen & perishable items included). These bins/coolers can easily be loaded onto the ferry with the rest of your bags (make sure to label them with your rental address so they get delivered appropriately). IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BRING ALL PERSONAL CARE & PRESCRIPTIONS WITH YOU (ESPECIALLY SUNSCREEN), BUT YOU CAN BUY LIMITED PERSONAL CARE ITEMS ON THE ISLAND.

LIQUOR TIPS

Beer & wine are sold on the island at the Maritime Market. But we recommend going to the nearby liquor store in Southport (ABC Liquor -714 N Howe St, Southport, NC 28461) before your arrival to the ferry to pick up any liquor you want to drink while on the island when you are not at a restaurant, country club or at the wedding. This liquor store is CLOSED on Sundays! You can transport the bottles in a secure container wrapped protectively to be loaded on the ferry or hand carry in a bag yourself.

ARE THERE SWIMMING POOLS ON THE ISLAND?

Some rental houses have pools, but not many. There are two clubs on the island that have pools- The Bald Head Island Club & the Shoals Beach Club. The rental you reserve will disclose if there are any memberships included in your stay, otherwise you will need to pay for a guest membership (which are VERY costly). You are not required to purchase a guest membership at any club in order to stay on the island.
