Two Texans finally found each other after decades of hop-scotching the country! Over old fashioneds and cheesecake, Sean and Paige first met and exchanged stories of their travels and families. Before we take you to the beginning, let us tell you how we got engaged! About six months into dating, Sean told Paige he wanted to mine for diamonds… in Arkansas. Though Paige had a different idea of how her diamond ring would come to be, she was intrigued. Dubious but curious, Paige came to find out that there is, indeed, a state park in Murfreesboro, AR, where the public can mine natural diamonds and keep whatever they find! Yes, some lucky folks have actually uncovered diamonds there! We finally made it out to Crater of Diamonds State Park on May 16 (see photo above). In true Sean and Paige fashion, we had a blast digging in dirt and finding studs of crystal-looking rocks that shimmered with promise…As you have not seen us on headline news, you may have guessed that we did not find the Hope diamond at the park, but we did find our diamond that same day...We went to Hot Springs, next, to wash off the dirt and specks of false hope, then we moseyed around town to the shops. One shop was a local jeweler. We popped in, and as luck would have it, we found the perfect gem - a classic solitaire that reminded Paige of her mother’s engagement ring 💎 But our adventure wasn’t done yet. Sean and Paige decided to “sleep on it” before committing to the gorgeous emerald-cut diamond. When we were at 501 Prime for dinner that night (highly recommend!!), we discussed whether this was really our ring… Paige asked Sean to confirm that the jeweler would be open the next day (Sunday), and he did confirm they would open at 10. Perfect. Time to sleep, discuss, and make a decision before driving back home to Houston the next day. The next morning, we woke up early, discussed it more, and confirmed that this was our Ring! We each showered and put on an outfit that was suitable for an engagement day. We went to the Pancake Shop in Hot Springs for breakfast (again top recommendation- just get there early!) then aimlessly strolled around town before the jewelry store opened at 10 AM. We were brimming with excitement, so we distracted ourselves with silly souvenir window shopping… At 10:01, we held hands and walked toward the jewelry shop only to find that the windows were dark and the door was locked. Turns out that jewelry stores in Hot Springs are closed on Sunday. Disappointment is an understatement. We began the 6.5 hour drive home in silence, but we soon began to laugh at our mess up. We still knew that that was the ring, so Sean told Paige he would make it happen … and the ring would be in our hands shortly. Unbeknownst to Sean, Paige had bought him a ring a couple weeks before. A tungsten steel beauty wrapped in whiskey barrel aged wood. It had arrived just a day before they went to Arkansas, and when they found the solitaire in Hot Springs, Paige thought it would be fun to surprise Sean with his own ring after he’d given her hers. With the snafu on Sunday, though, Paige pivoted and decided to spring a proposal on Sean before her own ring arrived. So, on Wednesday, May 21 (Paige’s parents’ 42nd wedding anniversary- which is also Sean’s age), Paige and Sean went to have a nice meal at McCormick and Schmick’s, one of their regular haunts. Paige whipped out Sean‘s ring and popped the question. Surprised but (apparently) tickled pink, Sean responded “duh!” They celebrated with champagne and lobster. Now, back to the backstory:Sean was born in Atlanta, and lived in the Bronx and New Orleans before moving to Katy, TX. After going to college in Denver, Sean has lived and worked in several cities, including Phoenix and Corpus Christi. He moved back to Texas to work for the Hooks and Astros, and he has loved reconnecting with his childhood friends here. Paige grew up in Austin and has since lived in North Carolina, London, Washington D.C., L.A., San Diego, and Sacramento. She moved to Houston in 2015 when she got a life-changing job with a top Texas firm. It took four decades and an online dating site for Sean and Paige to finally connect--on Sean's birthday, nonetheless! Sean says that when he saw Paige on the dating app, he knew he would need to "step up his game." Paige was initially attracted to Sean's infectious smile and love for baseball. After a couple dates, they each thought the other might just want to be friends... but that did not last long. Sean finally took a risk by telling Paige (via text) that she "might be the perfect woman." Paige was relieved she had not been friend-zoned! After they realized the affection was mutual, Paige and Sean have been nearly inseparable. We are so excited to celebrate with our family and friends- wedding planning is still in the works. Paige and Sean will likely have an intimate ceremony with only close family. Then, we plan to travel to invite our friends somewhere fun for a long weekend of music, dancing, and adventures with any friends and family who want to join and celebrate our marriage.
