In the fall of 2023, Charlene started a conversation with Pat near the mailboxes of where he lived and she worked as the property manager. The initial contact was very simple and cordial however, it quickly became apparent that we had a few things in common! The most prevalent and what lead to continuing the connection was that we both have suffered Traumatic Brain Injuries and due to this we have very similar experiences in the way we now lived - limitations and all.

After about six weeks of texting back and forth, Pat finally asked Charlene out for dinner. Now, this was not anything extravagant or luxurious as it was a simple take out dinner of Chinese :D. What was a surprise to Charlene was that the dinner was completely laid out and prepared for sitting down as she came to his door.

This dinner date resulted in an expansion of communication as we both became excited to participate in each other's lives henceforth!

As we continue this journey, we have been pleasantly surprised that there is a multitude of common likes, dislikes, dreams, and desires and as we move forward our goal is to continue with having "firsts" but at the same time enjoy what we know - our moms, dads, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as well as our faith. Not to mention what this remaining life has to offer.
