It all started on the 6B floor of the dorm, Sellery at UW-Madison. Courtney lived on one side of the elevators and Paul lived on the other side of the elevators. It wasn't until a couple of months into dorm-living that we started venturing to the other sides to mingle. Court and Paul easily got along and began going to some 'extracurricular events' and Badger games with friends on the weekends. Soon enough, Paul even began joining Courtney and her brother, Tyler at Group Strength classes at the Serf. Nothing came of our friendship until Sophomore year when we had a class together that Fall. This meant class 2x/week together and more study groups. More weekends of Badger games and 'extra curricular events' turned into something more than a friendship. After weeks of hanging out and watching lots of The Office together, we decided to finally make it official right after the awkwardness of Valentine's Day on February 18th, 2017. And who can forget, the first time we told each other we were in love, was nothing better than on Mifflin that year!
Fast forward to more than 4 years later....after completing our undergrad together and 2 years of long distance with Paul working as a nurse at Mayo in Rochester, MN and Courtney going to grad school in the Twin Cities for Speech-Language Pathology...Courtney and Paul headed on their yearly vacation to Lakewoods Resort in Cable, WI with all of Courtney's extended family. Since Paul began coming on the trip in 2017, we would go to brunch-just the two of us-to a cute cafe in downtown Cable called the Brickhouse Cafe (not to mention, Guy Fierri has been there, so you know it's delicious). We always ordered the same thing and sat outside on the patio. On Monday, June 28th, 2021, brunch wasn't so much the same. Paul requested we sit as far away from other people as possible outside. When our food came, he was acting all suspicious and went inside to "use the restroom." When he came back to the table, he got down on one knee and asked Courtney to marry him. Courtney even forgot to say "YES!" she was so in shock. It was so intimate and private-which Paul loved. Once back to the resort, we surprised everyone (a secret only Paul's family knew). The day consisted of lots of celebrating, pasta night, and more celebrating with the family that night at the resort bar. It was such a blast and a memory we will never forget!
(So in the end...the biggest shoutout goes to UW-Madison's automatic room generator that brought us together on the floor of Sellery 6B).
