We eloped!

Picture of We eloped!

In true "us" fashion, our elopement was delightfully unplanned and non-traditional.

Let's start this by saying that we started (jokingly..) planning our wedding after dating for maybe a month, so we should've seen this coming. For months leading up to spring break, we joked about getting hitched that week, but never seriously considered it because that would be crazy, right?... Then, spring break came, and Paul was spending the week with me in our new house in Fayetteville. I jokingly texted him, “Let’s go get married tomorrow.” To my surprise, Paul replied, “Okay!” without hesitation and immediately started researching what we needed to do to make it happen. Thankfully, Arkansas makes it incredibly easy to get married (you just need 2 people with a pulse & a photo ID, $60 cash, and a JOP) so we were Mr. & Mrs. within 24 hours of the text being sent!

It may not have been a grand affair, but it was perfect for us—simple, joyful, and full of love. We couldn’t be happier with our decision, and are so glad that we also get to celebrate our love surrounded by our family and friends!

How it started

Chloe's Version

We met on Hinge! I was pleasantly surprised to see how funny and charismatic he was, just through text, but didn't want to get my hopes up (stranger danger!) He quickly planned a fun date for us, but failed to PROPERLY communicate when our date would be... which left him eating dinner alone thinking that I had stood him up :). We met up later that night at a bar to listen to some live music, but ended up standing outside talking for hours. Our conversation flowed so naturally, laughs came easily, and I knew (even after he told me that he plays Dungeons and Dragons) that he'd be special to me. We had our second & third dates within a week of our first & have been attached at the hip ever since.

Paul's Version

I was about to take a break from dating apps when Chloe and I matched on Hinge. Immediately, I could tell that she was different by how naturally our conversations flowed. Sarcasm and humor was our early love language (still is) before we became gross and mushy for awhile.

I attempted to plan a nice first date in Fayetteville, AR, but unfortunately she misread my text and didn't show up for the first part. It worked out in my favor because the restaurant felt bad that I got "stood up" and comp'd my meal. Chloe felt terrible about the miscommunication and quickly changed her evening plans so she could come out and meet me at George's Majestic Lounge on Dickson st.

I knew Chloe was beautiful by the pics on her Hinge profile, but I wasn't prepared for just how gorgeous she actually was when we first met. The air escaped my lungs and everyone else in the room blurred out of my vision, and when she smiled and hugged me I knew I was the luckiest guy in the room. Now, I'm the luckiest guy in the world.

Why We Work

We’re as much alike as we are polar opposites, and somehow it works perfectly. Paul is admirably disciplined; I am delightfully impulsive. He has an adventurer's heart, while I prefer my adventures to unfold in the pages of a book. He lives by his to-do list, and I could never let a piece of paper tell me what to do.

But at our core, we’re two nerds who appreciate great music and love a well-told story. Most importantly, we both agree that our favorite things are always more fun when we do them together.

Together, we're the perfect balance of stability and spontaneity.
