To help answer some common questions about what to expect with a Catholic wedding and more specifically a Traditional Latin Mass, we will include some question and answers to help provide clarity on what to expect for our wedding. If you have any questions, you're welcome to reach out to Paul or I. You can also visit the Immaculate Conception Church Website at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church | About the Traditional Latin Mass | Rapid City, SD (fssp-rapidcity.org) Under Liturgy & Sacraments is information on the mass and before coming to Holy Mass
What is a Traditional Latin Mass?
Traditional Latin Mass, also known as the Extraordinary Form of the catholic mass, is celebrated in the Latin language with the Priest and congregation facing toward the east together toward the altar and tabernacle. The priest leads the people in the supreme act of worship, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. *Incense will be burned at the Mass* https://fssp-rapidcity.org/latin-mass
What should I wear?
We are requesting a formal attire for our wedding event. Out of the utmost respect for our Lord, modesty in the church is most important. Tight fitting, low cut, sleeveless, and revealing clothing as well as T-shirts, shorts, and clothing with logos would not be appropriate. https://fssp-rapidcity.org/before-coming
I'm not catholic, can I still come to the wedding ceremony?
Yes! We welcome everyone to celebrate us with our Lord in the most beautiful celebration of the Mass. It is okay if you're unsure of what to do, simply follow along with sitting and standing as the bride and groom do or as other catholic parishioners do. It is important to note: To receive Holy Communion, one must be a baptized Catholic, in a state of grace, with no mortal sin that has not been absolved by Confession. A fast of at least one hour (no food or drink, except water and medicines) before receiving Holy Communion is required. If you're not comfortable joining us at the mass, please feel welcomed to join us at the reception! https://fssp-rapidcity.org/latin-mass
I am catholic, how does receiving Communion work?
Holy Communion is received on the tongue while kneeling at the altar rail. There is no need to say Amen, the Priest will say this for you before putting the Host on your tongue. I have unruly children, is there a place to take them to respect the mass and parishioners?
If needed, we encourage parents with small children to use the lower level where a closed circuit television viewing of the Holy Mass is available. https://fssp-rapidcity.org/before-coming
