Libby and Paul started dating in the summer of 2019. Libby’s friends Jordan and Erin encouraged her to re-enter the dating scene by using the dating app Bumble, but Libby was hesitant. After a number of dud first and second dates, Libby was considering deleting the app and taking a break. One night she was swiping in the app when she came across Paul’s profile. Even though Libby had explicitly swiped “no” on every law student or lawyer, Paul caught her eye and she swiped “yes.” After exchanging only a few messages, Paul quickly asked for Libby’s number and she gave it to him.
Having completely forgotten about poor Paul, Libby decided to delete her Bumble profile. A few days later, Libby received a text from Paul asking to go on a date, but she didn't remember him! Thankfully, Paul remembered what Libby looked like and even recognized her when she arrived at their first date, despite the fact that she was soaking from head to toe after being caught in an intense summer rainstorm while following Paul's (sub-par) directions to the restaurant. Libby and Paul enjoyed an hours-long dinner people-watching at the very interesting venue Paul chose for dinner (note to reader - ensure you do not accidentally plan your first date at the hottest bar for middle-aged divorcees).
Just before their fourth anniversary, Paul and Libby jetted off on a European adventure. Libby was almost completely convinced Paul would propose later that summer on a family trip to Colorado, so there was only a small thought in the back of her head that perhaps Paul would propose during this trip. The thought of a proposal had completely left Libby’s mind by the time they reached the 8th day of their 10-day trip.
Armed with a ring in his pocket and no plan whatsoever, Paul knew he wanted to propose that day, he just didn’t know when. After touring Kensington Palace on a sunny London morning, Libby suggested they go walking in Kensington Gardens and Paul LOVED this idea. The King’s coronation had been just a few days before, so the Gardens were specially groomed and decorated in celebration. During their walk, they happened upon a gate to a secluded wildflower path and Libby suggested they walk there. Paul LOVED this idea too. While pretending to take Libby’s photo, Paul got down on one knee and asked Libby to marry him. Libby had never been more surprised in her life and of course, said yes.
